SELEX Galileo IRST (PIRATE) Eurofighter Typhoon Infrared Search And Track

The PIRATE (Passive InfraRed Airborne Track Equipment) is the FLIR/IRST for the Eurofighter Typhoon. It is developed by Eurofirst, an international consortium led by SELEX Galileo, with Thales Optronics (UK) and Tecnobit (Spain) as major partners.

SELEX Galileo is recognised as a world leader and major supplier to a wide customer base of battlefield EO and RF systems, communications and network systems and has worked from a regional base in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for more than 20 years. Furthermore, the company is responsible for almost 60% of the Typhoon electronics, including the CAPTOR radar, the DASS Defensive Aids System and PIRATE IRST.

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology signs collaboration agreement with Selex Galileo

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has signed a collaboration agreement with Finmeccanica's Selex Galileo.

This new collaboration agreement enables Selex Galileo and KACST to perform joint research and development projects in Radio Frequency, Radar, Laser, Electro-Optics (EO) and Infra-Red Technologies. The agreement further advances Selex Galileo's high technology partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the working relationship with KACST.

KACST is an independent scientific organisation of the Saudi Arabian Government, established in 1977 under the name of Saudi Arabian National Center for Science & Technology (SANCST) and later in 1985 renamed as ‘King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST)

Selex Galileo says it is committed to developing high technology partnerships in Saudi and will continue to work with Saudi companies in areas of industrial participation.

SELEX Galileo DASS (Defensive Aids Sub-System)

A defensive aids system (DAS) is a military aircraft system which defends it from attack by surface-to-air missiles, air-to-air missiles and guided anti-aircraft artillery. A DAS typically comprises chaff, flares, and electronic countermeasures combined with radar warning receivers to detect threats. On some modern aircraft, the entire system is integrated and computer-controlled, allowing an aircraft to autonomously detect, classify and act in an optimal manner against a potential threat to its safety.
