US backed corrupt politicians in 2008 polls: Imran Khan
January 27, 2013 - Updated 1537 PKT
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Imran Khan Sunday said the United States of America had chosen to back those politicians in 2008 elections whose second name was corruption, Geo News reported.
“Remember Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) left its allies in the lurch by boycotting the polls back in 2008”, said he taking a jibe at the Sharif brothers. He said this while addressing the participants of Jamat-e-Islami’s National Conference here.Khan said the hereditary politics had done no good to the country ever, adding it was time the family limited companies were busted.
“I urge all such political parties to at least hold elections within their families. It will help,” the PTI leader said.Lauding Qazi Hussain Ahmed for his vision, he said he (Qazi) sacrificed his party’s interests in the broader interest of the country. He said PTI was the only party after Jamat, which had decided to hold intra-party election.
Mocking at the President Asif Ali Zardari, Khan said he (Zardari) had left all the politicians behind when it came to realpolitik.“President Zardari is the undisputed champion of politics as he got away with buying the allegiances, both overt and covert, of some seasoned rival politicians. He sold Karachi to one and Punjab to another to ensure a smooth term,” said Imran Khan.

LAHORE: The current setup in Pakistan is not a real democracy but a “coalition of the corrupt,” said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Sunday.
Imran was speaking to a gathering held in Lahore in honour of former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief late Qazi Hussain Ahmed.
Calling democracy the only way to prosper, the PTI chief said the current government has done nothing in the name of democracy but looting.
Imran further said the leaders criticise judiciary for harming democracy only when it investigates their corruption.
“As soon as someone tries to hold you accountable, you cry about democracy coming under attack,” he said.
Speaking about the dynastic politics in the country, Imran said all political parties should hold intra-party elections to bring real leaders to the top.
“The traditional parties have their heirs taking over as leaders throughout the history of Pakistan,” he said.
Recalling his time in the parliament, Imran said during his five-year tenure he realised Pakistani lawmakers were selfish and only thought about themselves rather than the people.
He said such people should be stopped from coming to power.
