Like most things people do, trust is for their own benefit. If trust brings harm from someone who is not trustworthy, distrust is better than trust, because knowingly harming yourself is foolish, let alone healthy.

Back to the CGTN report, if I am looking for a pair of Nike's on Amazon. Due to trade tariffs, a pair made in China will be 20% more expensive than a similar pair of Nike's made in Vietnam. I like most consumers will order the pair made in Vietnam the one that is 20% cheaper and consequently the factory in Vietnam will get many repeat orders for their shoes. To remain competitive the factory in China will either have to reduce prices by 20% or rely on state incentives to remain competitive. The only scenario in which the Chinese factory will remain competitive is if the commodity is sole sourced from China or if the logistics and supply chain advantages help offset the cost of tariffs.

China does not care. The US Deputy Secretary of State went to Tianjin to negotiate with China, but China did not discuss tariffs.
Because China knows that tariffs only hurt the America itself.
