Innovation from Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Corporation (AMEC) is paving the way for the next generation of electronics and energy-related technologies. As China's largest provider of advanced capital equipment to manufacturers of semiconductors and light-emitting diodes (LED), AMEC has firmly established itself as an Asia-based leader in the highly competitive global market.

AMEC's breakthrough technology is featured in products launched last year. The Primo SSC AD-RIE, its latest advanced dielectric etcher, is already in production for 20-nanometre applications and being qualified for 15 nanometres and below. Such capabilities are crucial to producing next-generation memory and logic semiconductor devices, which are at the heart of feature-rich mobile and other consumer/industrial products. The Primo TSV300E tool helps manufacturers advance 2.5D and 3D integrated circuits. In the solid-state lighting market, AMEC's Prismo D-Blue MOCVD tool enables high-volume manufacturing of LED devices at a lower overall cost of ownership.

"Our etch tools have reliably processed more than six million wafers for international customers," says KH Koh, vice-president and general manager for Southeast Asia and Europe. "This record reinforces AMEC's quality credentials and is paving the way for adoption of our newest tools."

Superior customer service and aggressive research and development (R&D) investments are keys to this success.

AMEC stays close to its customers through an on-site team of technical support experts with 24/7 availability. This minimises downtime cost on the client's end while simultaneously priming AMEC's engineering capabilities for innovation.

To fulfil the huge demand for its equipment, AMEC has expanded production facilities in China. It is intensifying R&D on LED and plasma technology with collaborators in China, Singapore and South Korea.

"R&D is our lifeblood," Koh says. "We make sure that our tools can meet the demands of leading-edge technology."

AMEC plans to list on NASDAQ within three years. It is open to new equity investors before then to support expansion in Europe and the United States.
