In a study, scientists have shown how the little Blackpoll Warbler "routinely undertakes flights across the open ocean".
These birds are capable of undertaking epic journeys across the wide ocean between North and South America, said experts who have attached tracking devices to 40 birds as part of the study.
The research also shows the warbler doesn't eat or drink during the journey across the Atlantic, the dailymail.co.uk reported.
As part of the study, the researchers tracked birds from New England and Canada to the Caribbean, Venezuela and Colombia.
"It was pretty thrilling because their migratory feat in itself is on the brink of impossibility," the report quoted Bill DeLuca, from the University of Massachusetts as saying.
He added that the scientists are only beginning to understand the habits and migratory routes of these tiny birds.
The study was published in the Royal Society journal "Biology Letters".
