NEW DELHI: In a reinforcement of nuclear safety in India, all the atomic power plants have "passed" the stress tests ordered by the PM Manmohan Singh in the aftermath of the Fukushima accident.

"Indian reactors have passed the stress tests ordered after Fukushima," Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee said on Monday.

The stress tests, which are a combination of simulated quake events on the design of a nuclear plant, were ordered by Singh to address issues of safety of the country's atomic plants in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear accident in March.

The present designs are the safest designs of nuclear reactors as they come. They have a combination of 4-5 active and passive cooling systems. Inspite of that, if political parties indulge in cheap politics and stall their construction, then nothing can be done !!

Nothing surprising we follow highest standards and complete professionalism.

there must be some change in primary cooling design as the main reason behind the Fokoshima accidents was failure of heat removal system and as a result fuel melt down occurs
The pumps and standby systems were all sank in water and were not able to work
there must be some mobile pumping systems so that they can be used in emergency conditions

what u said is correct. But I don't think fukushima had passive cooling measures. It was a 1970 reactor model. Today's design has matured by 40 years. You got to consider that.

Japan is so advance in tech but still i always wonder why they were keep running such an old plant which should have been already shut some years back.. Earthquake are not new thing to japan but still they ignored the fact that its an old design so they should shut it down.. and due to this they paid the price.. so fault is not with n-tech but it was wrong management and thinking of Japanese govt.:hitwall:
