Al-Qaeda operative killed in Pakistan
A Major al-Qaeda operative of Arab origin has been killed in a suspected US missile strike in the troubled northwestern Pakistan.
The al-Qaeda militant was identified as Abdullah Azam Al-Saudi, a senior member in Osama bin Laden's terror network, a security told Geo TV on Wednesday.
"He was a senior commander of al Qaeda and was involved in recruiting and training of fighters," said the senior official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity.
Al-Saudi is the second high-profile al-Qaeda operative killed in recent US missile strikes in Pakistan's rugged tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
Egyptian al-Qaeda operative Abu Jihad al-Masri, described by the US as the terror network's propaganda chief, was killed in a drone attack in Pakistan in early November.
The developments come as a suspected US drone fired two missiles at a house in Bannu district of North West Frontier Province, leaving at least five people dead and several others injured, earlier on Wednesday.
In recent weeks, more than 100 people - among them suspected militants and many civilians - have been killed in the tribal belt in attacks by US missiles. The issue has become extremely sensitive in Pakistan where anti-American sentiment is rising.
