Came across this Interesting Image. Yes, it's an Al-khalid and yes it's at HIT. The real question is, Is this really the AK-1? Few major changes are visible.

AK1 is in developmental stage so this could be a "demonstrator". currently HIT is fully engaged in production of AK at the rate of 45-60 units / year. approx 220 have been delivered to the army from a stated requirement of 500 tanks!

Is it Ak1 or AKII? IF it is AK1 then How AKII would like like?

As Fatman stated, This might be a "Prototype" of the AK-1. As far as AK-II is concerned, we'll just have to sit tight and wait for updates.

The side skirts are square rather than triangular the tips, but can't really make out any other major differences.

Anything else you noticed Bezerk?

I imagine the remaining upgrades would be under the skin - better systems, more powerful engine etc.

Agreed! The more Important changes would have to be underneath the armour.

I noticed the side skirts as well and they looked different. And for some reason, the front looks a little less bulky than the regular AK's.

The frontal sides of the turret seem to have had a vertex added and the add-on slant armour blocks have been removed.

Could someone please post a photo of the in-production AK from the same angle.

Unfortunately, from that angle, we don't have any image available. However, this is as close as you can get to that angle.

That's Awesome! But why didn't you post it on our website? Never came across this image in the gallery :/

As far as AK-1 and it's information is concerned, anything that you can share with us would be great!

How did u get access to inside HIT as close to AK? and how did they alow u to take a snap?

If ur claim is genuine, then u must have alot of info on AKs, AK1 n AKII as an inside source, please share some with us as how AK1 is different than conventional AKs?

and also as conventional AKs in full(600 or some) has not been delivered to army and we are into AKI(understandable), and even AKII(absurd), i simply dont get it

Great picture! Damn it looks mighty...
I wonder though, with all the news lately and talks about RPGs and Anti-tank, and ofcourse the role of the tank further fading away in the near future with the increase of mechanized infantry, I wonder how well or how long Al-Khalid will serve us?
For what possible role could the Al-Khalid serve us? Will we use them for insurgents in the north? Or use them against India in a land-based war?

I did post this photo in one of my posts earlier in the AK-II discussions here! I though you got it from there! Where did you get this photo if not from my post? Just curious!

Not divulging into some critical changes owing to security, I can say that lessons learned from AK are being improved in AK-I. The biggest improvement is in the engine, a more modern FCS (French is being considered), locally developed IBMS, driver night vision sight (larger FoV), improved track and track pads options, improved Laser Threat Sensors more accurate gun laying, improved side skirts etc etc.

The program however is moving slow these days owing mainly to restricted funding from GoP & change in the HIT top leadership. The AK-1 is yet to be handed over to PA for trials. This was to be done in December 2008, but it has been delayed by a few months owing to completion of a few upgrades etc.
