Just wondering if there is a market for mock aerial combat as a sport? We do have professional aerobatic teams and then we have heard of the Red bull air racing tournament. I mean how hard will it be set up something like major league air combat and win over corporate sponsors?
Teams can get hands on retired fighte aircraft which can be flown by ex fighter pilots.
Like in boxing categories there can be categories like wwi, wwii, jetage and even wvr/bvr. Although I doubt bvr will as much a crowd pleaser as wvr will be. Getting livefeeds from the aircrafts cockpits/huds can be potentially very exciting
In such tournaments pilots can be celebrated for being ace in a day, ace in a season.
The only things that can prevent this idea from becoming a reality is
1)High costs of maintaining miltary aircraft
2)High chance of accidents taking place during these aerial encounters making them very close to gladiatorial events of the past
Or we should just stick to the latest air combat simulators for such thrills?
