AgustaWestland has pointed to a recently announced contract to supply two AW139 multirole medium helicopters to Bangladesh as evidence of its expanding presence in the military rotary-wing markets in south and Southeast Asia.
The contract with the Bangladesh Ministry of Defence was announced on 14 July and features the sale of two AW139s to the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF). The company said the helicopters will be delivered by the end of 2015 and will be operated by the BAF to perform maritime search-and-rescue (SAR) and other utility missions.
An AgustaWestland spokesman told IHS Jane's on 17 July that the Bangladesh contract demonstrates that the company's position in the south Asian markets is "growing every year".
