India's next generation-Agni 5 missiles will be test fired by February next year. This was disclosed by Defence Secretary and Security Advisor to Defence Minister Dr. V K Sarswat in New Delhi today. He was talking to media persons on the successful launch of strategic missile Agni 4.

He also made it clear that India is not in the race with China or Pakistan and it has developed Agni 4 missile for defence purpose only.

In a reply to a question, he said India has a policy of no first use of weapon and it will stick to it.

Elaborating about the technology used in Agni 4, which was test fired successfully yesterday from the integrated test range at wheeler island of the Odisha coast, Dr. Saraswat said indeginiously developed best technology has been used in Agni 4 and it is at par with the best technology available in the world.

Terming it as quantum leap in missile technology, he said operationalisation of Agni-4 is much easier and it can be deployed at short notice at any place.

He said, besides it has low maintenance cost.

Dr. Sarswat said that Agni-4 missile system is equipped with modern and compact Avionics with Redundancy to provide high level of reliability.

BTW I think now it is official that the test will be in February, not December, as mentioned by official press release, Ajai Shukla and other sources. I wholeheartedly wanted it is December. Anyway have to wait till Feb.

ICBM's dont use "seeker" as its target is not a moving one or small like ship or radar communication systems.

Kinetic bhai,you and other members are forgetting the Terminal Radar Scene Correletion guidence system used in Ballistic missile RVs.The Agni family of Ballistic missiles uses a combo of 3 guidence systems-1.the RLG based INS
2.GLONASS and 3.Terminal Radar Scene Correlation system and that's why Agni 1 MRBMs and Agni 3 IRBMs are the most accurate missiles in its range class.
But the 'importing from Russia' part is nothing more than pure BS,1st spread by our beloved Prasun Chor Gupta. . . .

5,000-km range Agni-V to be test-fired in February

Buoyed by the successful test-firing of the Agni-IV, the Defence Research and Development Organistaion will launch the 5,000-km version of the nuclear capable missile after three months as part of strengthening India’s deterrence capabilities.

“Agni-V is presently undergoing integration and we may test fire it by the end of February next year. It is right on schedule and the successful test of Agni-IV will prove to be a building block in development of this missile,” DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat said in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Saraswat talked about India’s missiles programme and developing effective deterrence capability against adversaries.

On Tuesday, the DRDO had successful test-fired nuclear capable Agni-IV missile from a test range in Wheeler Island off Odisha coast.

“Agni-IV belongs to DRDO’s flagship programme to make the country self-reliant in missile technology. We have now graduated to a higher level of missile technology with more capable versions of the earlier missiles such as Agni-I and Agni-II,” he said.

Talking about Agni-IV’s capabilities, he said, “Earlier missiles were based on rail mobile launchers which needed an exhaustive infrastructure support. But Agni-IV is based on road mobile launchers. It gives a much higher level of flexibility and is a maintenance free system. It is better in terms of accuracy and performance as well.”

This missile is better than previous ones in various parameters such as terminal accuracy, payload delivery capability and also in terms of maintenance and flexible operational deployment, he said.
