After ban, Atif Aslam refuses to promote Bollywood song

Well at least Atif capitalised on the Indian music industry. His response to injustice in Sur Keshtra was when I found out that he is patriotic...

So took money but not doing what he was expected of !!

Its a perfectly reasonable action to not work in a country that has a non-stop obsession and constant need to spew garbage against your own.

“Unfortunately this decision, following several others, including non-issuance of visas to Pakistani pilgrims, refusal to allow participation of Sikhs and Katas Raj pilgrims, and cancellation of sports matches, underscores the growing intolerance and bias prevalent in India” Faisal said.

Yes, it is, However one should respectfully and honestly complete the assignment he took the money for. He is free not to take any further work. By not committing to his work, he is making loss to someone individual who trusted him and invested in him.

Too much to ask?

Yes unless it is contractually required he shouldn't promote anything, previously he may have done out of goodwill, but the toxic climate created in India means that such gestures will not be possible any more.

He has a big career in Pakistan too, the Indian market only serves as an opportunity to earn more money and nothing else.

We tried banning Indian content before but we don't have the level of hatred to sustain it. Banning content and artists is idiotic, it doesnt achieve anything, infact makes it worse.

What should be done is heavy taxes be charged for tickets or content of Indian origin at Pakistani cinemas, the collected funds be used to subsidize movie tickets and movies of Pakistani origin.

For eg Indian movie ticket be charged Rs100-200 extra and similarly the collected amount be used to subsidize the ticket for a Pakistani movie, this way people will watch less Indian movies and Pakistani movies will be more commercially successful.

I am sometimes suprised by the lack of people understanding of market forces and free market economy. You cannot ban indian movies not because of any hatred bullshit but simply bcos your theatre industry is dependent on it. You cannot raise prices for bollywood movies hugely bcos that will inturn result in piracy and less footfalls which results in less money. This results in less distribution centres ....resulting in less revenue for pakistani films which capture a segment of these footfalls.

In bollywood, all deals are made inclusive of promotion. I guess the maker of film expect him to share the song on his social network.

Moreover, you must not betray an individual who has invested a fortune in a film and his success depends on your contribution. That person has done no harm to you or your nation.

I have no issue he reject any future Indian assignment.

someone collect zakat fitra and give these guys so they never go india for begging

In Pakistan's case we don't have too many theaters and going out to the cinema is not done too often or by too many. Movie tickets cost Rs500-Rs1200 depending upon class of cinema and either 2D/3D. Movie listings are usually more dominated by Hollywood releases. We did have a ban and it didn't close down any cinemas. Some individuals who deal in Indian movie distribution rights were affected and that was it. We are not too strict on piracy and latest Indian movies are easily available on TV networks or DVD shops. Eventually ban was lifted because the Pakistani public doesn't have the level of hatred for Indians and we know such boycotts don't achieve anything.

Let me repeat myself...you did not lift the ban because of any hatred or any such fluffy sentimental reasons. These things are immaterial to the economics of entertainment industry in pakistan. The ban was lifter because it reduc d occupancy rate further in pakistan.Movies make a huge killing in revenue from cinema theaters....a lot less than t.v.And if you check the highest earning movies in pakistan since 2000 ....every time it's a bollywood movie.
P.S Hollywood market capture rate is 1/100 th in india... considering more people in india speak English than pakistan it will be even less for you guys.

Please don't be under any illusion that Indian content is the lifeline for Pakistani cinemas. I repeat we don't have the same level of hatred. If a sportsperson, movie, singer or an actor is good it doesnt make any difference which country they are too us. We know good enough that Shahrukh Khan or Virat Kohli has nothing to do with a person killed on the LOC or a life lost in Kashmir. Both are well loved here and will continue to be so till they do any thing derogatory to us. Saif Ali Khan and any advertisement or movie featuring him is still banned in Pakistan after his remarks following the movie Phantom.

Movie revenues are different here, we don't have strict piracy laws for non Pakistani movies. And generally majority prefers to watch a pirated DVD which are easily available for Rs 80 per DVD than rather spend Rs500-1200 per ticket. Pakistani movies are protected and can't be found on DVD.

Please do not underestimate us.

27% of the Pakistani population can speak English as a first language. However, over 58% can speak it as a second language, making it home to the third-largest number of English speakers in the world.

For India found different %s 10-13% population
"India now claims to be the world's second-largest English-speaking country. The most reliable estimate is around 10% of its population"

Most movies make 50 to 70% of revenue from theatres ...that too in the first week. This revenue model is same across all movies and across all jounre. This is because in the first week approx. Every ticket sold ...only 20 to 30 percentage goes to theatre owners ...rest goes to the distributors....who takes his own cut about 3 to 10 percent and gives the rest it to the
producer. In the second week or so the cinema theaters owners and distributers now will take approx 40 to 70 % cut.
So you see every movie in the initial phase tries to open in the maximum number of screens....less screens ...less revenue. As the cinema owners were facing losses they could have reduced screen space further which will cause tremendous loss to domestic film revenue in Pakistan.

Regarding the English part.....the average Hindi news channel viewership in India is 100 times that of the most watched English news channel. For movies category it's almost similar. This is the huge difference even with all the southern belt not speaking hindi. The trend is similar for Hollywood vs bollywood movies in india.

MUMBAI/ISLAMABAD: Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has been repeatedly shrugging off requests to promote his latest song Sehmi Hai Dhadkan from the forthcoming Bollywood film Daas Dev, says its producer Sanjeev Kumar.

“Atif said he will do it, but it hasn’t been done. I’m not sure why he isn’t taking part in the activity, but, as a producer, I see that work promised hasn’t been executed,” Kumar said in a statement.

Sehmi Hai Dhadkan was unveiled on February 22 as the first song from Sudhir Mishra’s film Daas Dev, a contemporary take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel Devdas.

No decision has been taken on Rahat Fateh Ali Khan song, says director

Earlier this month, politician Babul Supriyo had asked for a ban on Pakistani artistes working in the Hindi film industry. He had also objected to the inclusion of Pakistan singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice in the film Welcome To New York.

To this, Kumar said, “Normally, such statements are made by fringe groups. When a minister says it, it leaves an impact on more people. But we needed Atif for this song. He has 20 million followers on social media. Imagine the kind of traction we would have got had he promoted it.”

Daas Dev stars Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari and Rahul Bhat. It is scheduled to hit the screens on March 23.

Pakistan criticised India for ‘anti-Pakistan prejudice’ as the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) upheld its ban on Pakistani performing artistes.

Ban Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for being Pakistanis, says Bollywood singer

“It is unfortunate that art and cinema, which bring people together by acting as cultural bridges, are being held hostage to hate and xenophobia,” Foreign Office spokesperson Muhammad Faisal said.

“Unfortunately this decision, following several others, including non-issuance of visas to Pakistani pilgrims, refusal to allow participation of Sikhs and Katas Raj pilgrims, and cancellation of sports matches, underscores the growing intolerance and bias prevalent in India,” Faisal said.

These decisions taken and/or upheld by the Indian government “expose it of (becoming) a sham-ocracy”, the spokesperson said.

I can see some gherat arising in him . Let's appreciate that , nd pray it remains permanently nd no dollar could lure him again .
