KARACHI — Karachi’s eight-year-old Shafay Thobani, has become the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist, it was reported here.
Born on March 13, 2004, Shafay grew interested in computers eversince he was a baby.

On April 9, 2012, Shafay appeared in the prometric test and secured 91 per cent marks, thus becoming the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Training Specialist (MCTS) at the tender age of eight years and 24 days.

The boy is a certified professional in Microsoft Windows 7 Configuration and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2. Before appearing in the exam, he remained under training of Microsoft certified trainers for 13 months.

His trainer Faisal Durrani said it was a challenge for him to teach complicated concepts such as Domain Name System (DNS) and Internet Protocol (IP) address to a child as young as Shafay.

Speaking of the boy’s main areas of interest, Shafay’s father Dr Shah Thobani elated by the son’s achievement, told newsmen that his son liked network and communication programming. “Shafay has already completed 65 per cent of Microsoft Hyper-V virtualisation, too,” he added.

“Shafay was born in 2004, the same year Arfa was declared the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional at the age of nine. Arfa was an inspiration for us and I hope that Shafay, too, would be a role model for more children to show their tremendous talent,” Dr Thobani said.

Shafay said, “I am proud of myself and I will work for Pakistan in any way possible.”

reading the name i thought it was another girl, and thoght what happened to boys, we suck

Me too.. in beginning i thought its a girl.

I hope any girl to follow suite.

Kudos to the kid, his parents and teachers, but isn't time he should be playing physical games rather than sitting in front of a computer? there is whole life for sitting in front of compouters

Exactly......it's like trying to do something that is not natural. The courses are meant for technicians and not for kids. Besides, these acts also undermine the value of these certifications as they have literally become child's play. Can the same child be taught to solve trigonometric or algebraic equations? Can he be taught to operate? I think the whole thing is simply ridiculous.

His parents should have focuesed more on the child's physical activities, perhaps with the vision to make him an outstanding player of international repute.

Can we not learn from the early sad demise of Arfa Karim. Her parents would never admit this but she was put under huge stress and pressure both physically as well as mentally to do well and unfortunately they paid the price. Its good this kid achieved an amazing task but for heaven sake he is just a eight year old kid. My two pennies.

Doing MS certification is very easy by getting test dumps via sparing few bucks. Microsoft should better do something to save their certification program from being complete joke.
