At least seven civilians were killed in an explosion in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan earlier today.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the incident took place in Pachiragam district, targeting a vehicle carrying civilians.
MoI further added at least two civilians also sustained injuries in the incident.
Condemning the attack in strong words, MoI said “The enemies of peace and stability committed another unforgivable and shameful crime in Nangarhar province.”
The Ministry further added “Today early morning, a roadside bomb which was placed by enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan hit a civilian vehicle in the Bargholi village, Pachiragam district of Nangarhar province.”
No group including the Taliban insurgents has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in east of Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents and ISIS loyalists are active in some of its districts.
Taliban militants and insurgents belonging to other militant groups are frequently using Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials.
However, in majority of such attacks, the ordinary civilians are targeted as the anti-government armed militants are accused of incurring the most casualties to the civilians.

A senior commander of the Taliban group was killed along with at least 20 other militants during the counter-terrorism operations in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Sunday.
According to a statement by MoI “In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police launched four Counter-Terrorism joint operations to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.”
The statement further added that the operations were conducted in Kapisa, Parwan, Oruzgan and Khost provinces.
“As a result 21 armed militants were killed including a senior commander of armed Taliban,” MoI added.
According to MoI, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition and an explosives-laden vehicle during the operations.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are busy conducting their annual counter-terrorism operation to suppress the insurgency activities of the militant groups.
The annual, Shafaq, military operation was launched in response to Taliban’s spring offensive which was launched earlier in April this year.
The security officials are saying that the annual ANDSF operations aim to eliminate the key leaders of the anti-government armed militant groups.

At least 13 seminary teachers were abducted by the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in eastern Nangarhar province, local officials said Sunday.
The officials further added that the incident took place in Haska Mina district after a group of ISIS militants stormed into a religious school in Deh Bala area.
A local official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed that the 13 abducted teachers were taken to an unknown location.
District administrative chief Sazwali confirmed the abduction of the teachers speaking to VOA’s Afghanistan service.
The loyalists of the terror group have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the loyalists of the terror group torched at least 65 houses in Kot district which was once under the control of the terror group.
Provincial governor’s spokesman Ataullah Khogyani confirmed the incident and said no casualties were incurred to the local residents but an official in Kot said the loyalists of the terror group torched the houses of those who refused to pledge allegiance to them.
The latest movements by ISIS loyalist in Nangarhar come as the terror group received major blows during the counter-terrorism operations during the recent months.
Both the Afghan and US forces conducted regular strikes against the loyalists of the terror group in this province.
The increased raids, usually involving drone strikes, by the US forces followed a broader role granted by the Obama administration earlier last year.
The broader role was granted amid concerns that the loyalists of the terror group are attempting to expand foothold in the country and turn the eastern Nangarhar province into a regional operational hub for its fighters.

Several top leaders of the Taliban militants group were killed in an airstrike conducted by the US forces in southern Helmand province, local officials said Sunday.
The airstrike was carried out in the restive Musa Qala district of Helmand, the provincial government media office said in a statement.
The statement further added that 25 militants were killed or wounded in the airstrike which included some of the top leaders of the group..
At least 15 militants including some of the Taliban leaders loyal to Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence – ISI, were killed in the airstrike, the statement added.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts.
The group has launched numerous attacks in this province during the year with the local officials saying that the growing raids were aimed at establishing a council in this province.
However, the officials said the Afghan forces managed to repulse the Taliban attacks and thwarted their plans to shift some of their leadership council members to Helmand.
