Afghan-India air cargo a “failed process”

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) called the Afghan-India air cargo a “failed process” as at least 120 tons of fruit are waiting for loading for the past 15 days.

ACCI deputy chief Khan Jan Alokozay said the air cargo transportation has started without prior preparations.

Traders had complained about cargo flight delays in July as well when their produce were left in a warehouse at Kabul Airport for three days.

The first cargo flight from Kabul to Delhi, establishing air freight corridor, was received on June 19, 2017. Subsequently, cargo flight from Kandahar to Delhi arrived on June 24, 2017.

The connectivity established through the Air Freight Corridor will promote bilateral trade; provide Afghanistan, a landlocked country, direct access to India; allow Afghan businessmen to leverage India’s economic growth and trade networks for its benefit; and enable Afghan farmers quick and direct access to the Indian markets for their perishable produce.

What exactly is an air corridor? Does it not go through Pakistani airspace?

yeah it was going

and soon no chabahar.........

This is an old news and the ACB was obviously anxious at the time due to hick-ups. The initiative was at a piloting stage so to say. According to the latest news 4000 tones of fruits and other products have been airlifted and exported to India. On the balance the initiative is a success and the both governments will ensure that the venture is improved on.

In fact speaking of first hand knowledge a significant volume of out trade has been diverted to Chahbahar... From 70% of our total trade now only half of that, 35%, uses Karachi as a transit port.

Einstein, it is still old - that is a month ago when the cargo began to operationalise not long before that. Read what I mentioned 4000 tons have been airlifted by now. So what?

I disagree -- everyone knew this cannot work -- the Afghans knew it -- the Indians knew it -- the Pakistanis knew it.

However, the winners and losers can be tallied as such:

1. Winner: India: For almost no expenditure they have secured a propaganda victory -- to achieve the same amount of positive PR would have cost GoI tens of millions of dollars in advertising costs

2. Losser: Pakistan: again re-enfenforces to the Afghans: Pakistanis are all little evil people

3. Bigger Looser: Afghanistan: nothing was gained and much lost. A lot of money for a poor country wasted. Poor traders lost their produce due to false expectations that there is no need to use the Pakistani route. But mostly it further poisons the Afghan population's mind vis-a-vis Pakistan with whom any Afghan government has to negotiate an eventual deal. This will further make any concessions on the part of any future Afghan government to Pakistan difficult.

Well we are experiencing this for the first time, there are a lot of things we may learn to facilitate trade via air.

At current pace we are exporting 80 to 120~ tons of goods to India weekly through this air corridor, it will increase once necessary infrastructure is developed.

Recent photos from ACCI regarding export of 40 tons of fruits:

You Pakistanis are chilled for every minor thing that Afghanistan fails to do, that's how your mindset is compared to Indians who support us in every thing and then you guys want us to ditch India for Pakistan... WTF!

You could have always had us in the loop as a trading partner too. But certain prejudices that are present in sections of the Afghan government won't let it go that way.

No one is asking you to ditch India for us. All we're saying is take your millions of refugees and go away. And this is why we're fencing our border with you
