BHUBANESWAR: The defence officials on Friday tested a new technology in a bid to incorporate ‘guidance system’ in the advanced version of indigenously built Pinaka rocket system.

The new technology in Pinaka was successfully tested from a defence base off the Odisha coast. Two rounds of the rocket were fired from the test range of Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) at Chandipur-on-sea.

Defence sources said the rockets were fired from a multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) at 11.35 am and 01.15 pm. The tests were conducted by both the PXE and Integrated Test Range (ITR).

The mission validated all parameters as coordinated by the Pinaka team.

“Since guided Pinaka is coming up in future, they are capturing data for further analysis. The data would be useful for the future guided flight. However, both the tests were successful as they had a good flight,” said a defence official denying to divulge details about the new technology.

The tracking radars have monitored the movements of the rockets till the point of impact. The advanced version of the rocket system has proved its efficiency and capability. The source informed that two more rounds of test have been planned on Monday.

As per the specification, the MBRL can fire 12 rockets with 1.2 tonne of high explosives within 44 seconds and destroy a target area of four sqkm at a time. The quick reaction time and high rate of fire of the system gives an edge to the Army during a low-intensity conflict situation.

Pinaka is the first indigenous rocket system successfully designed, developed and produced by the ARDE with the help of private industries. The system’s capability to incorporate several types of warheads makes it deadly for the enemy as it can even destroy their solid structures and bunkers.

An earlier version of the rocket system, which has undergone several tough tests since 1995, has been inducted into the armed forces while the present trials are being conducted with some improvements in the system. The rocket system has been developed to neutralise large areas with rapid salvos.

I guess it will take out Nasar battery sitting 60 km ahead.

NASR is a quasi ballistic missile (which can change its mission target inflight).. Not a 40km or so MLRS like pinaka...

We have pinaka equivalent since years .. KRL-122 with a range of over 50 & A-100 production range of 140+km...

Apart from other BATTLEFIELD Ballistic Missiles...

So shove it..

I was talking about battery not about taking it out in air. Being it cruise or ballistic or quasi-ballistic doesn't change a bit. A sitting system be it cruise or ballistic won't effect targe selection by Pinaka.

And the new Pinaka we are testing extends upto 60 km.

And Pakistan has some comparative system or not is not the point since it's not us Indians who would be taking tactical nukes mounted on 60 km. range missile in the battlefield.

So shove it..
Here comes the useless rant from Macho of digital world, who happen to be a real looser in real life.

lol, We have Russian system .300mm Smerch with 90+ KM range

Pinaka mark -1 has 40KM (Inducted) and Mark-II (testing) has 65 km , both are 214mm and will be using same tubes/ launchers

Pinaka Mark -3 will be 120KM (development)

Pak - KRL-122mm has 40KM range, and A-100 has 100km range.:woot: get your figures checked.

Point is, India is making own MBRL's :yu:

Don't argue with him on the range and stuff. He knows what he is talking about. He took one up his azz to find how deep it can penetrate.

Source for the ranges mentioned above. Also for the quasi ballistic nature of Nasr. Thank You.

Why unless you have the coordinates and the target is "stationary" and not mobile.

And the new Pinaka we are testing extends upto 60 km.
Good luck.

Good for you.. So why are you even bringing in Pak into your rants?

A-100E effective range 120... Max-140.

Nope... Mark II will be just 55km ... Any ways,..

Pinaka Mark -3 will be 120KM (development)

Love that fact that you boast about stuff that's not even in the planning stage..

Effective range of krl-122 ;

45 km

No .. But mine is most likely responsible for your unfortunate birth.

Don't make nonsense claims (you've been getting embarrassed since yesterday).. From submarines to now this..

@DESERT FIGHTER So not 50km and 140kms as you claimed.

Nowhere in the source you provided it says that Nasr is a quasi ballistic missile except the title of the thread and pics of Nasr launcher.

@DESERT FIGHTER So not 50km and 140kms as you claimed.

Effective range is different than maximum range..

The max range of A-100 is 140Km.

The Krl-122s range again has been enhanced and guided with help from French Nexter... But you won't find even the basic info of Krl-122 launcher on any govt site (they are not updated)..

"Maximum range of fire is up to 130 km."

From the very source you mentioned.

Again, if not government source then private.

Also no source provided for the quasi ballistic claim.
