Additional IG of Islamabad police found dead at headquarters' room

ISLAMABAD: An additional inspector general (AIG) of Islamabad police was found dead in his room inside the police headquarters on Friday afternoon.
Police officials said they found AIG (Operations) Asher Hameed dead in his room at an officers’ mess at police lines headquarters in Sector H-11 of the federal capital.
“He had returned from work in the afternoon and his driver and cook found him lying face down on the floor in his room before dusk,” Shams Colony SHO Khalid Mehmood Awan told The Express Tribune.
“Hameed was bleeding from his mouth,” the SHO said, adding a medical examination and post-mortem would determine what exactly happened to the AIG.
Cop kills four before taking his life
A picture from inside the room showed the police official lying next to a sofa, and apparently having heavily bled from his mouth prior to his death.
However, another official said the AIG was served tea shortly before he was found dead, with the door of his room found to be open.
Though the cause of death was not known immediately, police officials said cardiac arrest could have been the reason. According to them no apparent injury was found in the initial body examination of the official.
Meanwhile, police informed the family of the official about his death and shifted his body to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for postmortem (A post-mortem had not been performed at the time of filing of this report).

Hameed lived at the officers’ mess along with several other police officers while his family lived in Lahore. He had also served in the investigation branch of Punjab police before being appointed in Islamabad police in 2015.
Earlier on June 23, a constable of Islamabad Police shot dead four persons including two women and a child before killing himself at a house in Banigala.
