Petition: Free Woman Who Was Jailed for Life at 16 for Killing Her Rapist | AlterNet

Sara Kruzan was only 11 years old when she met the 31-year-old man, G.G., who would become her pimp. With Sara's mother addicted to drugs, Sara was allowed to form an odd relationship with G.G., in which he plied her with gifts and outtings. When Sara was 13, G.G. raped her for the first time. For the next three years, Sara was controlled by G.G., who made her and several other young girls sell themselves for sex seven nights a week for twelve hours at a time.

Seeing no other way out, at age 16, Sara killed G.G.

Despite her young age, her severe trauma, and her status as a child trafficking victim, Sara was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. She was sentenced to a life without the possibility of redemption. She was sentenced to a life without hope.

Now 31 years old, Sara has been a model prisoner who regrets taking G.G.'s life. You can join the more than 21,000 Change.org users who have petitioned Gov. Schwarzenegger to grant her release.

Guys, we can't be judges here sitting on the internet without knowing the details of the case. If there was a chance her lawyers should have repealed the case after the verdict came out.
Let's not judge a country by isolated cases like this.

ThatDamnGood- Do you even know what Checks and Balances refers to?

Not only are you cherrypicking cases- you are implying such cases are US government 'justice' when in fact the US government had no control over these alleged rape and murder cases whatsoever. They fall under the purview of the state judicial systems in most cases, and that was the case here.

I'd also add that even in these cases, you have shown the value of free speech. These cases are being reported upon, and something is being done even if the judicial system initially fails.

How many cases of communist party officials (or officials in general) abusing their power in similar ways as your China article highlighted go unreported?

This is sick.

The sicko lawyer/judge who condemned her to life in jail for this should lose their licenses. Those sick bastards.

Sick? Maybe, maybe not. We just don't know enough from this single source to comment with any certainty. As for the lawyer & the Judge, it's not that simple. The trial would have been with a jury & if they were sympathetic to her, she would have been acquitted.

The US *** kissers can chose to spin it however you want. The articles, it was by the more self aware Americans on what America is like today.

There are anomalies in judicial systems everywhere, no system is fallible.

By using just one such example that you hunted out and found, highlighted by the media of that same country, and using it to show your own Justice system in a good light..........is a sign of insecurity.

when its a problem with china, any small problem is a national problem.

when its a problem with the US, any national problem is just a small problem.

does the spin make you dizzy?

to many sick incidents in the west are happening these days despite being isolated they portray the mental wear and tear of populace!

Brilliant - take an isolated case with no details, and smear it in such a way that the entire nation is guilty of gross injustice, and the whole system is "broken."

There is only one "spin" I'm seeing here.
