KARACHI: A suspect arrested from Karachi’s Saddar Town confessed setting fire to a garment factory in Baldia Town back in 2012, ARY News reported on Wednesday.
The criminal named Shakeel arrested with four of his accomplices from the precincts of Preedy Police Station on Sunday revealed before the investigators that he and his aides set fire to the garments factory.
The fire in Baldia Town’s garment factory killed more than 250 labourers.
Shakeel said that he and his accomplices went with some combustible chemical drum to the factory and some of his aides went inside to start the fire after overcoming the guards.
Some of Shakeel’s aides went inside to ignite the fire. All of them escaped the place once the task was accomplished.

According to investigators, Shakeel alias Chota is a worker of a political party. He and his accomplices also admitted their involvement in extortion, snatching hides of sacrificial animals, firing during strikes to threaten public amongst a myriad of other crimes.
Police sources claim to recover Submachine guns (SMG) and repeater guns from the custody of arrested criminals.
The Baldia Town factory blaze was one of Pakistan’s worst fires which killed more than 250 people at a garment factory known as ‘Ali Enterprises’ in Karachi.
Hundreds were trapped inside – the building had metal grilles on the windows and no fire exits.
