Like any other political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also has a long list of dedicated workers, and many of them have interesting stories to share in the backdrop of their association with the party. One such worker who joined the party a decade ago has never been able to shake hand with Imran Khan despite his best efforts. He almost daily visits the partys Central Secretariat, located on Embassy Road. He supports his family by doing a private job.
He insists Imrans biggest edge over the rest of politicians is that he is honest and so far remains untested, and it is time for his party to make a mark on the national politics by posting a convincing electoral victory in next general election. This worker has been an office-bearer of the partys local chapter but somehow, he was out-maneouvered by some smart PTI guys: today, he holds no party office. He visited the offices of The News the other day, just to have this correspondents views on the electoral chances of the PTI after having made its mark on the national political scene in recent months.
This scribe asked this PTI activist to describe his own experience with the party and how he viewed its chairman and his leadership qualities, who wants to fight corruption and ensure provision of justice to all and sundry. Initially, he was reluctant to talk but then agreed only after he was assured his identity would be withheld. The educated party worker decided to join the party after having been deeply inspired by Imrans slogan of justice to all without any discrimination and ending corruption through ruthless accountability. I have no interest in cricket and hence, you cant say, it was Imrans cricketing era, which motivated me to become a part of his party, he says.
An educated person apparently in mid 40s wants not only to shake hand with Imran but also have a one-on-one meeting with him to apprise him of how he feels about the massive surge in the party popularity, joining of faces with diverse political background, on-going membership campaign and the intra-party election to be held after June. The PTI activist makes a point that even if he could not manage to ever meet Imran through out his life, he would continue to remain loyal to him and the party, come what may.About Pakistans future, he cautions that if one way or the other, the PPP or PML-N again managed to bag enough seats, Pakistan might slip into anarchy and chaos. Like Imran, he also says that the parties of status quo must be dumped in the upcoming elections to give Pakistan a breather.
