Boy’s eye gouged out as parents refuse to vote

Patna - A 10-year-old boy’s eye was gouged out in a Bihar village as a punishment for his parents’ refusal to vote for a particular candidate in the panchayat (village council) elections.

The victim, Ajit Kumar of Dhabouli village in Bihar’s Begusarai district, is now undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

According to sources, his eye was gouged out with a pointed grass-cutting tool Monday while he was playing in the fields.

His father Suresh Rai, a landless labourer, alleged that four people of his village - Jeeran Rai, Shambhoo, Sheoji and his wife - overpowered and gouged his son’s eye to punish them for not voting for their candidate in the panchayat elections held in June.

‘I accuse myself for having refused to vote for their candidate because it cost me my son’s eye,’ said Jago Devi, his mother.

She said that the persons responsible had threatened to teach them a lesson after the panchayat elections were over. However, no police complaint has been lodged despite the parents repeated attempts.

And these guys claim to hold free and fair elections in Kashmir? I'll continue having my doubts...

What is the point of this? At WAB you posted stories about India, the Indians posted stories about Pakistan, and everyone got banned or left. Why try to repeat the same things here?

Hey Parihaka would you post the same message on WAB for those members of the opposite party who are posting nothing but same kinds of stories :)

It's news, horrible news. Worthy of pointing out eh?

A kid's eyeball got removed! We spend time discussing hot teachers having sex with their students. People goto jail for that. I repeat, a kid's eyeball got removed.

what is India doing about this?!

Media did a good job in publishing this issue, but will the criminal be arrested & sent to jail?

I'm very equal opportunity oriented. Don't need powers when words can do the trick.

Can't remember who said these lines umm

Hum dushmano ko bhi pakeeza saza dete hain
Haath uthaate nahi, nazaron se gira dete hain

It's poetic, but very loosely translated:

We given even our enemies such punishments
Without raising our hands, we lower them in grace

Perhaps someone can do a better job at the translation.

It'd be a welcome move to see something get done about it.

Suresh Rai's a landless labourer.

And you can see the pitiful state when the mother says:

‘I accuse myself for having refused to vote for their candidate because it cost me my son’s eye,’ said Jago Devi, his mother.

FYI Parihaka aint an Indian.Guess everybody considers him to be an Indian because of his Maori screen name...

And Rahman, can you do something about the title of this thread?
I think its a stupid title.

You know its easy to make a thread like "Carry a gun with Laser designator to feel safe in Pakistan" and I can show you the Musharaff laser gun article to justify it.

Good point, like the new one?

I'm voicing my own personal opinion along as well. I did post the original title of the news article to clarify.

Just put the title of the article...or just say "Kids eyes gouged out for refusing to vote right".

The title is misleading.
I mean, my father has been voting since 45 years and surprisingly my eyes are still with me!

if you havent noticed he's the new mod.

How does that change the truth, Rahman?

Parihaka's a nice chap. I don't think anyone here thinks otherwise. Don't be so alarmed by just some casual ball busting.
