What's new

a beautiful post about north korea

North Korea is an orderly and clean country. If I have to choose between NoKor and a develop country like japan which is polluted with radioactive wastes, NoKor will easily be the right choice.

.
the mandatory government radios that can't be switched off are in Pyongyang, not the whole country and it's not disinfo, it's a corroborated fact and you can read up on them in Andrie Lankov's, as well as other noted scholars and DPRK experts' books as well as see for yourself in some documentaries shot inside the DPRK on youtube.

yeah those from the very low economic classes here might not mind living in Pyongyang, but then Pyongyang is a city of 'elites', the rest of the DPRK behind the iron curtain is in a shambles, they're starving and oppressed under the heavy boot of Kim Jong Un.

It's obviously disinfo, when there are multiple radio stations! And now you are saying that none of those radio stations can be accessed from Pyongyang, the capital?

I'm also not an engineer, but I bet if we are serious, we can sit down and calculate how many homes there are in Pyongyang, and then check to see how many of these radios exist, and then calculate the possible electricity usage per radio that is on and broadcasting 24/7, and see how much electricity this project is consuming per day, per year.

What's possible is that there might be a speaker in each home as an emergency measure to relay certain critical information to the public. Remember, North Korea is still technically in a state of war, and they might have taken certain precautions to be able to quickly relay instructions or information to the public in case of an outbreak of war. This would seem more likely.

I did a more search on this and found this picture,
Radio in a house - North Korea | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

This looks more like a speaker rather than a "radio".

The comment on that picture says,
"well, In South Korea, those kind of speakers in apartment home only use for public announcement of apartment managing office. but in north korea, government took control to whole apartment...."

So, we now know that it is NOT a radio but a speaker and it is available also in South Korea!

Okay, this means I did another search on speakers in apartments in South Korea.

This is a thread I found where people are discussing the speakers in South Korea,
Korean Job Discussion Forums :: View topic - Speakers in my apartment

Here is a blog where someone mentions the speaker in their apartment in South Korea,
kimchi-icecream: I seriously love the public announcement/intercom speaker in my apartment in South Korea--really, LOVE IT!

Notice this part, "In my last apartment there was a volume switch on it that I turned down to its lowest setting--otherwise the speaker would have had a date with my screwdriver and a wire cutter."

There is a LOT of disinformation in this world. It would be insane to think that disinformation can exist for other countries & situations, but it suddenly stops when it comes to North Korea and everything magically becomes gospel.

@jamahir : Please answer the question somebody asked before - why isn't there a single North Korean here on PDF? Why is it left to you, who has never been to North Korea, to sing its praises? Why isn't anybody from that "beautiful city" of Pyongyang here, explaining its beauty to us?

That's really a silly argument. There are a lot of countries who are not represented here. I don't think presence on a Pakistani defence forum gives us any clue about that country. Indian posters are here much more than people from New Zealand, does that mean that India is overwhelmingly better than New Zealand?

What kind of 'imperialism' ? Broad enough to fool the gullible, I suppose.

This,

or this,
List of United States military bases - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a nonsense to start. All countries are self reliant.

Allow me to disagree. I think there are many countries that are not able to defend themselves or manage their government without the support of foreign powers, therefore they remain under their direct or indirect control.

More vagueness and actually confusing. What does the 'current status quo' mean ?

This of what you think is "right" and "correct" and how the world needs to be from your USA perspective, and I will consider that as the status quo.

Willingness to create their own society based on their own beliefs ? What country does not do that ?

Due to my point about self-reliance, countries need to sometimes base their societies on establish "norms" (as defined by superpowers) to be able to considered as "acceptable" countries.

You are praising North Korea and criticizing US in as general terms as possible, two signs: That you do not know what you are talking about and that you do not have the courage to get into the details where they really matters.

Therefore, you consider me both ignorant & cowardly. Obviously, I disagree with such insults, but it doesn't matter. You are free to think so.

ok, so it's a speaker, not a radio which can not be tuned to any station, got me on that technicality. However, it does exist, and it broadcasts non stop govt propaganda, and it cant be switched off and tampering with it is a crime which may send you to a gulag.

It's nothing to do with war precautions or warning the people, that's the same as their line about how the great leader 'protects them from the outside world' by not allowing any communication.

DPRK is not a country, it's a massive social experiment, a very evil one at that.

@Madali

If you are just interested in vilifying a country based on baseless propaganda, go ahead, it's been done all the time, and you are not the first person, nor the last.

But if you are willing to ignore the mass amount of deception that exists 24/7 to find a glimmer of truth, then we have to be more objective.

I'm not saying North Korea is a heaven on earth. All I'm saying is that most of the negativity about it is false.

When speaker becomes radio, then is it not possible that other information about this is false? When South Korea has the same concept, why is it okay in the South but a terrible action in the North? How do we know what information comes out from the speaker? Is it once a day or every 5 minutes? Is it for important announcements or is it state anthems all day long?

.
If someone is degenerate enough to support a genocidal maniac like @sshead , then he/she can support that lump of meat kim lunatic. No problem for such people. 2 groups of people normally support lunatics like kim. Ignorant people who view the world as black & white and people with political bias. Since their r not many people dump enough to be communist nowadays , it seem to be a case of pure ignorance. I mean seriously how can someone even feel sympathy for such tyrants. These kim lunatic dynasty has been holding millions of koreans (who r humans with flesh & blood) hostage, just to keep hold on power and continue their failed experiment of socialism, a degenerate intellectually bankrupt ideology. Anyone supporting lunatics like @sshead and kim should have no problem with holocaust and butchers like stalin & hitler. Even the chinese don't even bother defending that lump of meat korean dictator.

Also it seems US imperialism has lead to a disastrous side effect , which is the notion that enemies of US are good. If US is against someone doesn't make that someone automatically good. Gadaffi, mubarak , ben ali's crimes can NOT be justified anyway by the US imperialism excuse. They were tyrants who tortured and slaughtered people just to loot and fill their coffers. Same goes for that genocidal butcher @sshead and manaic putin. The world is not so simple as evil US VS the rest of the world. Maniacs like putin seem to be using this side effect of US imperialism to their advantage.

but where are the North Koreans on PDF ? why no socialist paradise guys telling us the truth ? :)

Most likely is some concentration camps , @jamahir socialist paradise.

I'm not vilifying a whole people but their system of governance, of which much has been written about in great detail by legit credible scholars such as Andrei Lankov and others, have confirmed the existence of these speakers (single station radio receiver/broadcaster units)

Their style of socialism is a failed massively flawed and horrible system, that whole country is one big jail. The Soviet union was not as bad, Gaddafi's system was nothing like either the soviets or DPRK. Sure, there's anti DPRK propaganda out there but is there even a point debating when what we know for sure about them is already so bad. Can you even imagine living like that with literally 0 freedoms, and 0 access to information ?

Iran gets a lot of flak from the west/US too, but at least you guys have freedom to travel and access to the internet and other social media where you can debate and debunk some of the lies out there. What is it that makes the DPRK so paranoid that internet = instant death sentence ? not that they can access anyway, but that's what they get when they find smuggled movies, tv shows and other media on their citizens.. a firing squad.

It's beyond absurd, screw those guys, in many ways, even compliant people under the ISIS regime have it better in the caliphate than the brainwashed North Koreans.

in the korea war, the aggressors not only were usa military and british military but also sadly the military of my country, india.
on behalf of the progressives and humane people in india, i seek forgiveness of the people of dprk.

When did you become an Indian ? :o:

Aren't you a World citizen who reject the concept of Nation itself.

And i think you need to go through the link below to know how north North Korea stands against South Korea on various economic and other parameters.

Yeah. And if I have to choose between an Oprih and an idiot, the idiot will easily be the right choice.

. . .
Well to be fair it wasn't all NATO doing the killing.
Of the -1M force about 600K were South Koreans. So to say they were all huddling in safety well away from the lines would be taken as an insult.

What kind of 'imperialism' ? Broad enough to fool the gullible, I suppose.

grenada, cuba, iraq, libyan jamahiriya, syria, venezuela, iran ( 1953 ), vietnam, laos, romania, afghanistan, somalia, angola, chad, gaza, congo, korea ( 1950-53 )... other members may please add.

You are praising North Korea and criticizing US in as general terms as possible, two signs: That you do not know what you are talking about and that you do not have the courage to get into the details where they really matters.

how about the homeless people in usa?? why does every post-ww2 usa government spend money to produce more and more weapons and wage wars instead of providing homes to its own citizens??

in dprk housing is a free facility because it is considered a human right in that socialist country.

look at this[1] tragic case from usa from 2014...
A New Jersey woman who worked four jobs, who sometimes “wouldn’t sleep for five days,” according to a co-worker, died Monday while napping between shifts in her car on the side of the road.

Maria Fernandes died in her 2001 Kia Sportage after inhaling carbon monoxide and fumes from an overturned gas container she kept in the car, according to the New York Daily News.

The 32-year-old Newark woman pulled into a WAWA convenience store lot in Elizabeth, New Jersey for a nap early Monday. She left the car running. The carbon monoxide and gasoline fumes were the likely cause of death, authorities said.
Fernandes emigrated to the United States from Portugal. She was beloved by co-workers at the Penn Station Dunkin’ Donuts in Manhattan, who called her a model employee.

“She used to work like three shifts every day,” Parth Patel told NJ.com. “Sometimes she wouldn’t sleep for five days.”

Fernandes also logged shifts at the chain store’s Linden and Harrison, New Jersey locations, co-workers said.

“She was a very sweet person. A hardworking person,” said Ravina Ramjit. “She was always joking around with everybody.”

Co-workers said Fernandes often sang Michael Jackson songs at work, mimicking his dance moves on the job. She had planned to take a break from her jobs this Friday to celebrate Jackson’s birthday at a Central Park memorial, according to NJ.com.
About 7.5 million Americans are working more than one job, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Those jobs often leave people short on income compared to full-time work, said Carl Van Horn, director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University.

"These are folks who would like to work full-time but they can't find the jobs," Van Horn said. "They wind up in these circumstances in which they are exhausted. More commonly it creates just an enormous amount of stress.”

Following the recession that began in 2008, many Americans were shuffled into part-time employment, working two or three such jobs to make ends meet.

"The average person who lost their job took a 10 percent pay cut (after returning to the workforce)," Van Horn said.
so in usa, if you cannot find good-paying employment, you become so stressed you may suicide or become careless about health dangers.

the above case when taken for the entire population of usa[2]...
Job stress can be fatal and contribute to the deaths 120,000 Americans a year. It can also lead to hypertension, cardiovascular disease and decreased mental health, a new study argues. It also costs tens of billions of dollars in healthcare.
In 49,000 of these deaths, the biggest contributing factor was a lack of health insurance. Unemployment contributed to 34,000 deaths, and job insecurity and high work demands contributed to 30,000 deaths.
while in dprk, medical system is free, housing is a free right and citizens need not suicide, die or be stressed because of lack of money.

so this life-taking and anti-harmony capitalist system is what usa government wants to export to every progressive/socialist country??

Well to be fair it wasn't all NATO doing the killing.
Of the -1M force about 600K were South Koreans. So to say they were all huddling in safety well away from the lines would be taken as an insult.

whenever i use "nato" i mean all militaries technically the members and and also those more than on hello terms - for example, singapore, brunei and the gulf states.

I doubt people who think they got it right will be able to maintain their view once they visit north korea.

why do you think that?? you have not visited dprk personally, yes??

here is one thread[3] called "13 observations about north korea by a western visitor" that you will find in the "similar threads" section at the bottom of this very page... it gives a sympathetic view of dprk.

there are others who have visited dprk and don't hold opposing view of dprk and i have posted before of two such western young men - nile bowie and kai.

I totally get imperialist bit, but thats how human history always have been, more powerful countries either dominate or decimate less powerful one. Not saying its right, anyway its less of an issue now.

how is that a less of a issue or a academic issue?? we are humans who must judge on wrong and right at least in the modern world and seek a proper path to the near-future... should we forget that 250,000 syrians died just since 2011 because of nato regime-change plotting?? should we forget that obomba and co. are war-criminals and genociders??

The current problem with north korea is they are ruled by a family and cannot escape easily. If anybody wants to know how the life might be, should read/listen east germany or soviet era life.

yes, family members succeeding in head-of-state positions is not quite the democracy promised by socialism and dprk as well as syria as well as every other country should look at the green book to fulfill true democracy, but why does dprk become exemplar of "family rule" and not saudia or britain or netherlands or even usa ( the bush family )??

@jamahir its not enough to be contrarian, I know the feeling of being different from other and being right, but you have to use same skepticism about north korea that you use when talking about west or regimes you dont like. Otherwise you are just using another bias.

why do you think that sukant chandan and myself are wrong about dprk and bbc/cnn/radio-liberty/dailymail are right??

Also please do consider that you are in a priviledged position compared to north koreans, so you have the liberty to love 'beautiful rural simple life', 'life without trappings of modern gadgets'.

india has the largest number of cell phone subscribers and is one of the largest markets for consumer gadgets, but is india a example of progressive society??

by the way, i don't use cell phone.

why do you think dprk is all about "idyllic and beautiful rural simple life"??

how am i privileged compared to a person in pyongyang?? i have had a life of suffering which wouldn't have been the case if india had a socialism-guided political system.

@jamahir : Please answer the question somebody asked before - why isn't there a single North Korean here on PDF? Why is it left to you, who has never been to North Korea, to sing its praises? Why isn't anybody from that "beautiful city" of Pyongyang here, explaining its beauty to us?

you saw that somebody's question to me but didn't see my answer[4] to him right on the first page... was it your hurry to bash dprk?? :)
letter size 7?? maybe you should increase it to 14... double the impact of your disinfo, what say??.

but to the point, there are no venezuelans either and no longer comes the lone libyan member... should we take it to mean that i am wrong about venezeula/libya and bbc and cnn are right??

besides my point, @Madali has answered[5] you in a simple and direct manner and you didn't reply to this point of his...
That's really a silly argument. There are a lot of countries who are not represented here. I don't think presence on a Pakistani defence forum gives us any clue about that country. Indian posters are here much more than people from New Zealand, does that mean that India is overwhelmingly better than New Zealand?

and i will add that dprk will have much better living conditions and human rights than india whose nationalist members are overwhelmingly represented on pdf.

the uno-undp agency's "human development index"[6] for year 2014 has india at number 135 and cuba at 44, syria at 118 ( despite the war )... it is india that was declared "suicide capital of the world"[7] by uno-who agency in 2014, with year 2012 seeing 250,000 suicides in india... there are 70+ million homeless people in india... in late 2014 ( under modi government ) came reports of hunger deaths[8] in the tea estates of darjeeling... i can write many other things about problems in india, which only exist because of the non-scientific political system that promotes the traditional indian extreme capitalism and reactionary attitudes, but i will omit those here because i have written on them many times on pdf including here[9].

so what is your point??

When did you become an Indian ? :o:

Aren't you a World citizen who reject the concept of Nation itself.

i used the older word "country" instead of "nation".

besides, should we not criticize our country's establishment if it does something wrong??

And i think you need to go through the link below to know how north North Korea stands against South Korea on various economic and other parameters.

South v North Korea: how do the two countries compare? Visualised | World news | The Guardian

firstly, the source is "guardian", which automatically would be biased against dprk... why should "guardian" be believed in this situation??

secondly, look at my quoting of "rt" articles about the oppressive situation in usa.

now to your article...

the graphic has the item "press freedom index ranking", which doesn't give any true picture of any country... the same graphic has "gdp" but this doesn't say that in dprk, things like housing and medical system are free for the citizens unlike in south korea... the same graphic has the item "military expenditure" which also doesn't say that nato has been keen since 1953 to invade dprk and do regime-change like happened with libyan jamahiriya with 40+ nato militaries invading it in 2011 preceeded by thousands of nato-proxy terrorists and the libyan jamahiriya had dismantled its nuclear weapons program.

what is "north korea is a small, impoverished and isolated country" in the article?? the citizens would be in better living conditions than any south asian country ( especially india ) and how is dprk "isolated" just because no nato bloc airplanes are regularly landing in dprk airports?? there are so many progressive people's delegations, tourists, commercial delegations and government delegations going to dprk every year.

in the table, dprk is described as having more land mass than south korea but doesn't say that much of dprk is mountainous land which is difficult to cultivate for crops but even the biased wikipedia entry for "north korea" has this...
The agricultural sector was shattered by the natural disasters of the 1990s.Its 3,500 cooperatives and state farms were among the most productive and successful in the world around 1980 but now experience chronic fertilizer and equipment shortages.

and the table continues its disinfo by talking of "global hunger index score"... in india, 500,000 children under the age of five die every year of malnutrition and look at the darjeeling tea estate hunger deaths in india that i quoted to ayesha.

lastly, if you subscribe to the right facebook groups, you can see pictures and informations of the latest developments in dprk in various sectors.

It's beyond absurd, screw those guys, in many ways, even compliant people under the ISIS regime have it better in the caliphate than the brainwashed North Koreans.

when @Madali has used simple reasoning and shown the wrongness of your arguments and sources, why are you still being stubbornly anti-dprk and especially continuing the lies about those speakers??

and why did you now start on the libyan jamahiriya??

Lovely place, almost no electricity, limited water supply and bland poor supply of food. That with complete media suppression, public executions and a military state, what a shithole

So you're planning your honeymoon in Pyongyang?
