As many as 91 Bangladeshi migrants were found in Car Nicobar, a part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, police officials said today.

"We have found 87 of them on Saturday evening and four on Sunday morning from Tamaloo village of Car Nicobar after they swam upto the village in search of food and water," Mr George Lalu, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Campbell Bay told UNI today.

According to police almost all of them were starving and 25 of them have been admitted to the Bishop John Richardson Hospital of Car Nicobar Island. Their condition is now stable, he said.

Police said that during investigation the migrants said that they had paid a good amount to agents for illegally entering Malaysia for work and started from Bangladesh on January 2 but on their way they were apprehended by the Thai navy.

"We were kept in a dark room with minimum food and after nearly seven to eight days they set us adrift in open sea in an engine-less boat with minimum possible ration and water," one of the migrants reportedly told the Police in Car Nicobar.

In December 2008, nearly 300 such illegal migrants were found in Andaman Sea and various other Islands by Indian Coast Guard and the Police Department.

Initial investigations suggested that the 91 Bangladeshi migrants were drifting in and around Andaman sea for nearly fifteen to twenty days.
