9 reasons you need to add Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam to your South East Asia hit list

from the article

9. The Salinda Hotel

I stayed at the Salinda Hotel on Long Beach, less than ten minutes from the airport.

In SE Asia you often find five-star hotels to be more like three-stars but the Salinda did not disappoint.

I was greeted with a cold flannel and a selection of drinks before being whisked off to my room.

Along with the biggest bed I had ever seen, the room had beautiful decor, gorgeous views, a flat screen TV, iPod docking station, a tonne of sweet-smelling toiletries, air conditioning, robes, slippers – the lot.

The poolside was impressive as the rooms.

An infinity pool backed onto the beach, separated by a row of palm trees.

There’s an abundance of staff on hand, the food was excellent, the service impeccable, and everywhere was clean and tidy.

Although the resort is pretty expensive in Vietnam terms, it’s very good compared to European prices for five star stays.

where is reason number 10 hehehe
here bro,

10. the island of phu-quoc will be transformed into a clone of Singapore, with policies as special economic zone, tax breaks, many government´s incentives, free visa travel (valid for 30 days). besides, we have a naval base on the island. I expect the base will become a second major naval base after the cam-ranh bay. from the island we can control the gulf of Thailand and entrance to the Indian Ocean and South China Sea.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh

Why don't you return to your native land, the central plains, and give all the rest back to the indigenous people?

Bro, why are you giving me too many choices ! Argh. First Dalat, now you're making me have to choose over Dalat over Phu Quoc! Then there is Saigon , which i really want to say is my 1st choice since there is a direct flight btw HK and SGN and Cathay Pacific has a really great summer promo deal...

Danang bro, Danang.

Phu Quoc is a bit overrated, the weather in the gulf of Thailand is not as good as in the Pacific ocean side of Vietnam, its a bit too humid. The water is getting dirty because there is a lot of development going on but.......... no treatment for the waste. I was there a year and a half ago, nice but nothing special. The best place to eat fish and seafood in the whole island, the night market, they just decided to close it in order to improve traffic, incredibly nonsensical decision. Like I said, Danang.

Vietic people taken it peacefully when Khmer did'nt known about this Island and when American didnn't existed in the world.

Europeans go to Mediterranean while Americans go to Caribbean. Vietnam's tropical beaches' major customers are Chinese in its north. However, Vietnam's anti-China policy blocks Chinese from those beaches. Chinese rather go to expensive Hainan island, or go to Phuket in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia or Maldives in Indian Ocean.

Just by tourism, Hainan is much richer than Vietnam with High Speed Raily circling the island. Beaches here are crowded with Chinese and Russians. Everything is so expensive.

But with the circling high speed railway, you can easily jump from one beach to another beach to find some cheap places.

Kien Giang (VNA) – Phu Quoc island district in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang is set to become a special economic zone and the locality’s growth driver between 2016-2020.

The province also aims to turn Phu Quoc into a large tourism and service centre, focusing on entertainment and leisure, financial services and its maritime economy.

Kien Giang will continue to adjust policies to attract major investors, said Pham Vu Hong, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

Efforts will be centred on developing comprehensive infrastructure, facilitating the operation of investors, strengthening local authorities at district and communal levels and increasing the capacity of the management board of the Phu Quoc Economic Zone.

In the short term, Phu Quoc’s tourism sector is expected to play as the spearhead, Hong noted.

To meet this goal, the province will work to diversify tourism products, combine tourism with the protection of historical and cultural relic sites, the environment and special ecological systems.

At the same time, Kien Giang will focus more on communication efforts and professional tourism promotions to lure investors and visitors, while removing difficulties facing travel companies.

Phu Quoc has been given a facelift, Hong said, citing the completion of various transport, aviation and power facilities and the implementation of tourism and service projects.

Expanded aviation services have facilitated the arrival of people from all walks of life and investors, he added.

According to Doan Van Tien, vice chairman of the Phu Quoc People’s Committee, the district posted economic growth of 32.36 percent in 2015.

Last year, Phu Quoc’s GDP per capita hit 5,469 USD, representing a three-fold increase against 2010.

The island district welcomed more than 873,600 visitors, of whom over 151,700 were foreigners. It earned over 3.1 trillion VND (139.5 million USD) from the tourism sector, up 6.8 fold compared to 2010.

Tien said the poverty rate has also dropped to 1.2 percent.

By mid-January 2016, 230 projects had registered to invest in Phu Quoc. Of them, 164 have received investment licences with a total capital of over 183 trillion VND (8.2 billion USD), focusing on infrastructure, urban area development, the maritime economy, tourism, trade and services.

A number of the projects have been put into service such as Phu Quoc International Airport, An Thoi International Seaport, the 110 kV Ha Tien-Phu Quoc undersea cable system and the Vinpearl Phu Quoc resort complex, among others, the official said.-VNA
