The government is going to give preliminary approval to 9 more economic zones in the country. Of these, 1 government, the rest will be established in the private sector. The total land area of these economic zones is estimated to be about 4, 750 acres. In addition to general investment as well as plans for the production of information technology park and solar power, the organizers said.
Government has announced to establish 100 economic zones in the country by 2030 in the public and private sector. Of these 79 economic zones have been selected. If 9 new additions, the number of selected economic zones will stand at 88.
However, in the public and private sector, 27 economic development projects are underway. 17 economic zones are working in the private sector. On the other hand, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEJA) is working on establishing 10 economic zones on its own and public-private partnership (PPP) basis. Land allotment is going on in the 30,000-acre Mirsharai Economic Zone in the public sector. Land allocations in the Shreehatta Economic Zone of Moulvibazar Production in the factory has started in several economic zones. However, the private economic zones are much smaller than the government.
The new nine economic zones will get initial approval, among which Chhatak Economic Zone is being run by Sunamganj Chhatak. Nital-Niloy Group will establish this economic zone. Its land area is 138.66 acres. The land was owned by Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), which was purchased by the Nitil-Niloy Group.
Kazi Farms will make an economic zone in Chandanaish of Chittagong. Its name will be Kazi Farms Economic Zone, which measures 130.33 acres. The Standard Group of the garment sector will make an economic zone of 140 acres of land in Gazaria, Munshiganj. Saad Mura Group will make an economic zone on 90 acres of land in Anwara, Chittagong.
Besides, in Mymensingh's Trishal will be Hamid Economic Zone, which will be 153 acres. Gazaria of Munshiganj will be an economic zone called Hossaini Economic Zone. Ananda Special Economic Zone has been proposed in 100 acres of land at Nishndabazar Mauja in Valukwa, Mymensingh. A data-driven economic zone called Data Soft IT Park has been proposed in Dia Bari in Uttara, Dhaka. Its size will be 12 bighas.
Chandpur Economic Zone will be in government initiative in about 4,000 acres of land in Chandlok upazila. In this economic zone, Beja is planning to fill 3,90 acres of government khas land and 910 acres of land.
Recently, the Standard Global Economic Zone is seen, this economic zone is close to the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. There is almost complete work of soil filling. Now the construction of the boundary line is under construction. About the establishment of a new economic zone, the Executive Chairman of Bager Paban Chowdhury said in the first light that space selection is an ongoing process. After the approval of the Board of Governors of Besar, the development work will begin if the financials are considered fit by probing the feasibility study. He said, in the meeting of the governing board, some more economic zones could be taken for primary approval. Two economic zones that can be approved can be excluded.
Production starts in private economic zones
Several of the private financial zones have already started production. Meanwhile, Aman Group established a factory of cement, chicken food, packaging products and shipbuilding in the Aman Economic Zone on the banks of the Meghna river in Narayanganj. Officials of the Economic Zone said that there are now 16 thousand workers working there. Apart from this, some investment proposals from China, Germany and Japan were received in the open land. The size of this economic zone is 84 acres.
It is seen in the Abdul Monem Economic Zone that the soil filling work is almost done. Meanwhile, Japanese motorcycle maker Honda Corporation has signed an agreement to acquire 25 acres of land. Honda will work in Bangladesh on this land for the first time. Abdul Monem Economic Zone director A Gafur told reporters that they received investment proposals from around 15 companies, mostly Japanese. They are under review now.
Meghna Industrial Economy Zone of Meghna Group beside Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, a steel plantation plant has been established in about 100 acres of land. The pre-fabricated building material is being built in. Apart from this, the construction of several other factories in this economic zone has been going on.
The work of establishing another economic zone of Meghna Group is at work on 244 acres of land on the banks of the river Meghna. Its name is Meghna Economic Zone. Meghna Group chairman Mustafa Kamal told reporters that in this economic zone, several factories including Meghna Group paper and tissue mill, edible oil refineries, atar mills, power plants and factories.
