Pigeon held in India on suspicion of spying for Pakistan
Indian police are holding a pigeon under armed guard after it was caught on an alleged spying mission for arch rivals and neighbours Pakistan, according to reports in local media.

4:33PM BST 28 May 2010

The white-coloured bird was found by a local resident in India's Punjab state, which borders Pakistan, and taken to a police station 25 miles from the capital Amritsar.

The pigeon had a ring around its foot and a Pakistani telephone number and address stamped on its body in red ink.

Ramdas Jagjit Singh Chahal, a police officer, said he suspected that the pigeon had landed on Indian soil from Pakistan with a message, although no trace of a note has been found.

Officials have directed that no-one be allowed to visit the pigeon, which police say may have been on a "special mission of spying".

The bird has been medically examined and was being kept in an air-conditioned room under police guard.

Senior officers have asked to be kept updated on the situation three times a day, according to a report from the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency.

Mr Chahal said local pigeon fanciers in the sensitive border area had told police that Pakistani pigeons were easily identifiable as they look different from Indian ones, according to the Indian Express newspaper.

I think India also "captured" a camel and rared it waiting for it to give some explanation or something for some decade or something!!! :woot:

2-month old baby youngest to get anticipatory bail

Mumbai:
Two-month-old Zoya Khan is perhaps the youngest person to get bail. Her entire family was accused by her step mother of harassment for dowry.

Says lawyer Anil Bole: "Her stepmother Shakila lodged a complaint of dowry harassment against her father. In the complaint letter she is also mentioned as an accused."

Zoya's ordeal started last Friday when her stepmother filed the complaint. The Khans were summoned to the police station. Zoya spend over ten hours there with her biological mother before anticipatory bail was granted to them.

Says Zoya's mother Reshma Khan: "My daughter is two months old. I have to breast feed her in every ten minutes. If I am not around who ill take care of her."

The police says the complaint letter mentions everybody, including Zoya.

In their FIR, obviously, a minor Zoya is not an accused.

9-month-old charged with terrorism in Pakistan - Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (GEO TV/CNN) - Police authorities suspended an officer for lodging a "First Information Report" against an toddler, but only after the 9-month old 'criminal' got bail from a local judge on Thursday.

The accused appeared in the local court with his grandfather where Judge Rafaqat Ali granted him an interim bail.

Nine-month-old Moosa Khan and his father were booked for their involvement in an alleged assassination attempt on police.

Muslim Town police accused the child of stoning their colleagues somewhere in the city.

The boy was even fingerprinted.

Taking notice of the media reports, DIG Operations suspended the officer for registering a case against the 9-month old boy.

Police were quick enough to shift the blame on the plaintiff who filed the charge, saying they didn't know the accused was a child.

Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu has also taken notice of the human rights violation by the police.
It is rather interesting how people efficiently ignored the 1st bit :woot:

Read post 19...they police officer was suspended for his stupidity but of course being Indian you didnt see the 1st line itself!

@Cherokee Since I dont live in India...I dont know your laws and had to google it:

Under Indian criminal law, there is a provision for anticipatory bail under Section 438 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This provision allows a person to seek bail in anticipation of an arrest on accusation of having committed a non-bailable offence..good she got saved....otherwise it would have appeared as this unfortunate kid appeared however if you type youngest to get bail ...you will get zoya not this 9mth old! so your geniuses book of record holder goes to Zoya!

Better captured by a zoo keeper...then involve the authorities like the case of the camel and pigeon!! :D

prob needed one for its exhibit :D

and guess who repots the mirch masala sensation?! yup Times of India!

Pakistan ‘arrests’ monkey for crossing India border

Authorities in Pakistan's Punjab province have “arrested” a monkey that crossed its border with India, the Times of India reports.
Beware the Indian spying monkeys. (Richard Kirby - Nat Geo Wild)

Wildlife officials captured the monkey after a struggle and took him to Bahawalpur Zoo in Punjab, where he was named Bobby.

The capture may be payback for an incident last year, in which Indian police detained a pigeon and kept it under armed guard after it was caught on an alleged spying mission for Pakistan. The pigeon was found with a ring around its foot, and a Pakistani phone number and address stamped in red ink on its body. It is unclear whether the bird was ever released.

held Pakistan responsible for all crises in Afghanistan, and Pakistan chastised Australia for selling uranium to India, demanding it be able to buy the nuclear raw material, too.

Pakistan asked to release Bobby the border crossing money - Telegraph

Bobby, as he has been nicknamed, created a stir when he was captured by paramilitary forces at a checkpoint last month and has become a star attraction at the zoo where he lives with a Pakistani monkey Raju.

His illicit arrival in Pakistan immediately provoked suspicions that he was an Indian agent, sent to gather intelligence on Delhi's nuclear-armed rival.

Now the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations has written to ask that he be returned the wild.

"Captivity is cruel for animals meant to roam free," wrote the groups, convener, Arpan.

"On behalf of all our member organisations and thousands of supporters we urge you to kindly rehabilitate any trespassing animals in their natural environment and not in the pitiable prisons-zoo." Last year police in India "arrested" a pigeon on suspicion of spying for Pakistan.

Irfan Farooqi, curator of Bahawalpur zoo, said he thought Bobby was not a secret agent.

"We don't suspect the monkey has been deliberately sent to Pakistan. I don't think it is a trained spy. It is a common monkey," he told AFP news agency.

Swinging both sides: Trespassing Indian monkey caught in Bahawalpur – The Express Tribune

BAHAWALPUR: In a bizarre turn of events, Monday saw the capture of a cross-border trespasser – a monkey, found wandering in Cholistan, all the way from India.

As soon as the monkey entered the Cholistan area of Bahawalpur district, locals tried to capture it but failed as the monkey dodged past them.

Local residents then informed the wildlife officials, who after some struggle, managed to capture the strayed monkey.

The monkey was later placed at the Bahawalpur zoo, said Mohammad Iqbal, who is now his caretaker. According to reports, the newest resident of the zoo has been named Bobby.

Iqbal told The Express Tribune that Bobby was a clever monkey, and it was the first of kind in the Bahawalpur zoo. He added that visitors were very happy to see him.

Iqbal said that Bobby, who is almost four years old, is in good health and is being fed fruits in his pen along with his Pakistani neighbour, Raju.

This is not the first case of such cross-border animal arrests. Last year, Indian police held a pigeon under armed guard after it was caught on an “alleged spying mission” for Pakistan.

The bird was found by a local resident in India’s Punjab state, which borders Pakistan, and was taken to a police station 40 kilometres from the capital Amritsar.

there is no mirch masala................Pak authorities arrested a monkey for no reason,on the other hand,we had reasons to arrest the pigeon which was carrying a Pak based telephone number ................

That is not how undercover works..you dont write your initials write up front and give it to some officials...most likely that number was that of the owner as cheap measures to retrieve his pigeon ...

my point was..............Pak aint an ally so India seems extra cautious which is a good thing

secondly, you are agreeing to the fact that it indeed had an Pakistani number attached to it,so it was a gud enuff evidence for Indian authorities to check it..............whats wrong in capturing and checking...........especially when its coming from Pak............

LAHORE: A nine-month-old child was booked by Lahore police for the alleged attempted murder of a police officer and was even presented before a session judge’s court on Thursday.

The ‘accused’ was granted an interim bail after he appeared in Judge Rafaqat Ali’s court with his grandfather, Muhammad Yaseen. However, the infant started crying in the court when his grandfather held his thumb to dip it in ink and put its print on the bail bonds – since the tot could not sign it himself.

According to the FIR, the baby, along with his uncles and grandfather, attacked the police officers, bailiff team and some Sui gas employees with wooden rods and pelted them with stones. While the infant was being formally charged during Thursday’s hearing, he was busy suckling on his pacifier.

A police team along with a bailiff and some Sui gas employees raided Muhalla Thanedaran to sever gas connections of houses that had not paid their dues, the FIR reads.

Muhammad Yaseen, his sons Irfan and Imran as well as Imran’s son, first pelted stones at them and then attacked them with wooden clubs, causing the police team and Sui gas employees to run for their lives.

ASI Kashif, the complainant, said the accused caught him and beat him up, giving him a head injury. They also threatened to kill him, he claimed in the FIR.

Police lodged the FIR against all of Muhammad Yaseen’s family members, which unilaterally also included Imran’s son. But they did not bother to find out that Imran only has one child, his nine-month-old son, whom Yaseen then brought to court for the hearing. “He was nominated in the FIR so I took the child to court,” he told The Express Tribune.

Police were quick enough to shift the blame on the plaintiff of the FIR, ASI Kashif, saying they did not know that one of the accused was a child.

Taking action, DIG Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar has ordered the suspension of ASI Kashif for lodging an FIR against an infant, but the move was taken only after the nine-month-old ‘suspect’ got bail from the judge.

The DIG also sought a report on the incident from Iqbal Town SP Tauseef Haider and appointed Headquarter SP Maroof Safdar Wahla as inquiry officer.

DIG Jabbar said, “A nine month old can never commit such a crime. This incident took place due to sheer misunderstanding on the police’s part and was not done on purpose.”

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu also took notice of the incident and have sought a report.
