What's new

7 of the 8 Spelling Bee winners are Indian Americans. Here's why that's not surprising

.
Good for them. The parents work hard on their children and it reflects in their achievements.

Having said that, i wouldn't put my kids in a spelling bee, or a maths contest. It adds unnessacary pressure on kids. Kids need to learn the value of education is not just to win trophies and pass exams. This is an extension of rote culture really.

I have American flags, but am second generation Indian.
Thanks for clarification. It was very evident from your previous post ... after all we are neighbours and recognise each other very well.
So, my knowledge is that Indians can't keep dual nationality - so by law you are now US citizen but with Indian background. Am I right?

Indian - holds Indian passport. No other passport.

NRI - holds Indian passport, works abroad, no other passport. Taxation laws are different. Most Indians in
the Middle East will be NRIs.

PIO - Person of Indian Origin. Not an Indian Citizen. Does not hold Indian passport. Used to hold Indian passport/Parents or earlier were Indian citizens as defined by our citizenship act. Most Americans of Indian origin would fall under this category.

OCI- Overseas Citizen of India. PIO with long term visa for India. Restrictions on rights include voting and government jobs. The closest to a dual citizenship.

Dual citizenship is illegal in India.

If there is something factually incorrect in the article please point it out
Otherwise quit whining
I asked you a question and you are rude in a way to answer it ... revealing the truth is painful to you so you are the one who start 'whining' - so get lost.

Every media source is biased. Humans are biased. Deal with it

CNN has a track record. Their track record speaks for themselves

Sir G, thanks again to augment my general knowledge - very detailed and descriptive. That is the benefit of such forums ... we learn and spread knowledge.

So Sir thanks for the correct way to answer ... no hard feelings - be happy.

Even an "unbiased" article by "unbiased" journalist can have "factual" errors or can be rewritten to minimize bias
I prefer people point out what can be improved

Right ... but it is also very visible that most of the media are government platforms for propaganda. So we should avoid to jumping to conclusions by listening to opponents. You will feel about the authenticity of the news/article yourself.

I was born a US citizen.

Stopped reading after this. The Mahabharata is not a Vedic text.
Vedas just mean knowledge. Four Vedas discussed the laws of nature, lives, while vedantas (end of vedas) discussed the questions one raises (more like atheism), similar to them Upanishads talked in general about human nature.

All these were highly philosophical and not really simple, so they took examples from one who followed these ideals, and hence we have Mahabhrata Ramayana which is infarct a Vedic texts. In every aspect of it, and one might call them Purana which simply means history.

Does Purana mean "old" ?

Tricky language Sanskrit. Purana means old when you use it in the context of it. In here it is, when I say Bhagawat Purana, Matsya Purana it just mean history or story.

@mods... Can we post any offtopic post in any thread in pdf?? Let me know if you guys still think PDF is unbiased towards all nationality members.
You think the mods who strolled here didn't see them? This is just the way it is.
