Seven Chinese astronauts, including, for the first time, two females, have been shortlisted for the country's ambitious space program, Saturday's Hong Kong newspaper Wenweipo reported, citing anonymous military sources on the sidelines of an annual session of the nation's top legislature in Beijing.

Citing confidentiality rules, the unnamed high-ranking official didn't disclose the names of the seven astronauts.

The seven top-flight pilots were cherry picked from 45 candidates of air force's ace pilots, 30 male and 15 female, who, in three batches, went through a head-to-toe physical examination as well as psychological tests, the newspaper said.

Do you think there will be at least one female astronaut in the first moon mission?

Do you think there will be at least one female astronaut in the first moon mission?

Why has this come to your mind all of a sudden?

Both females are going to the Moon. They all are final candidates to join the space program.

BEIJING: The preliminary selection for candidates of China's second-batch of astronauts has finished, with candidates including 30 men and 15 women who are all airforce pilots, authorities said Thursday.

Among them, five men and two women would be final candidates to join the space program.

It was the first time women had been up for selection in China's space development cause, authorities said.

The 45 candidates, with an average age of 30, would undergo another round of tests, including physiological and psychological checks, an air force official said.

He said the male candidates were fighter plane pilots and the female candidates were aero-transport pilots. All serve in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force and at least held college degrees.

Many of them had conducted important flight missions such as rescue tasks for the massive Wenchuan earthquake on May 12, 2008 in southwestern Sichuan Province, and various military drills.

The authorities said they "all master excellent flight skills and boast great psychological quality."

See you guys of Taiwan province don't want to stay with your Motherland, mainland China, but you are depriving yourself of the opportunities that your motherland could have given to you.

Without mainland China you have no identity... US is using you as decoys against your own blood brothers. Anyway, this is off topic. :china:

Well assuming they have three astronauts I don't think they will have two women on the first mission. Possibly one women and two men, and one women and one men will actually walk on the moon surface. Thats if they have something similar to the apollo program.

The shortlisted astronauts are likely for multiple missions

I have no problem with mainland china. And yes this is not relevant to topic.

Politics aside, Taiwan has it's own special culture. It still has a special place as home, and the last thing I want is to see it destroyed by war

the PLA is protecting taiwan right now both from its own mistakes and from foreigners. as long as the PLA exists taiwan will not be destroyed by war. There's nothing to worry about. Maybe next time Taiwan will get to send someone up.
