KABUL, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Over 68 Taliban insurgents laid down their arms and surrendered to the government in western Herat province of Afghanistan on Wednesday, head of Strengthening Peace Committee Hazrat Sharif Mujadadi said.

"Fifty insurgents from Gazara and Pashtun Zarghon districts laid down their arms today and vowed not to fight against the government," Mujadadi told Xinhua.

Senior military commander of Afghan forces in the province General Jalandar Shah Behnam also said that 18 more insurgents from both the above districts surrendered to the government troops Wednesday.

Their surrender took place in the wake of the killing of Taliban key commander Ghulam Yahya Akbari days ago.

Taliban militants have not made any comment.

Over 100 Taliban militants surrender in Afghanistan


Kabul, Nov 4 (IANS) Over 100 Taliban militants have laid down arms and surrendered to the government in Afghanistan over the past few weeks, a senior police official has said.

“More than 100 armed anti-government militants, including several key commanders, have laid down their weapons and joined the peace process in Kunduz, Takhar, Baghlan and Faryab provinces over the past couple of weeks,” Mohammad Daud, the commander of police in northern provinces, was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

With the former militants supporting the peace process, security would significantly improve in the northern provinces, he said.

The Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan National Army (ANA) and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have conducted a series of operations across the northern region to capture militants’ strongholds, he said.

Many areas in Takhar province bordering Tajikistan have been cleared of militants during the operations, forcing the insurgents to flee to the remote mountainous areas, he said.

Excellent. Now all these 140 should be lined up in front of a firing squad and shot dead with 30 mm cannons. Their living only becomes a problem for security forces in future. Tomorrow if these scumbags' comrades come and kidnap a dozen civilians and demand the release of these 140 losers, NATO/GOP will have to release them in exchange and all this effort goes down.

Better to kill all of them once and for all so that there's no weakness for the forces.
