NARAYANAPUR: 60 Naxals from Abujmarh surrendered before Bastar Inspector General (IG) Vivekananda Sinha in Narayanpur, on Thursday.

The Naxals, which included 40 men and 20 women, said they were fed up with the Naxalites' strategies and hence decided to quit.

They also surrendered seven rifles.

They will be now provided government relief and benefits under the rehabilitation policy.

A total of 7 Naxals, including 5 women were killed on Friday in an encounter with security forces in Chattisgarh's Bijapur. Three jawans were also injured In the same encounter, which took place in a forest near the Ipenta village of Bijapur, around 500 km from the state capital Raipur.

Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg, speaking to PTI, detailed that based on a tip-off about the presence of Naxals in the area, a combing operation was launched in the forests along the inter-state border. The combining operation was conducted by a joint squad of Greyhounds, which are an elite anti-Naxal unit of the Telangana Police, and security personnel from Chhattisgarh.

When the joint squad neared Ipenta, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides. After the end of the encounter, security forces recovered the bodies of 7 Naxalites from the encounter spot, along with weapons and Naxal literature.

The Bijapur encounter comes a day after 60 Naxal cadres on Thursday surrendered in Narayanpur in Chandigarh. All the surrendering cadres had reportedly been associated with the outlawed Maoists for 8 years and had been tasked with spreading Maoist propaganda, damaging government buildings, attacking police teams and collecting information.

In early March, another encounter had taken place in the Bijapur district when a team of Greyhounds personnel swooped on a Naxal camp in a joint operation with the Chhattisgarh police, leading to the death of 10 Naxals.

Congratulations to our brave soldiers for their courage and determination.
Finally the naxals knew that their methods and ideology is obsolete and nearly extinct.

This is the perfect time to strike at the roots of naxalism:

1- Corruption of officials and their goons in poverty-ridden areas and their immediate arrest across the Red Belt.

2- Send in heavy firepower against whatever remains of these vermin, while increasing political attacks against communist parties (all) all of which quietly support naxalites.

Yep we need to hunt down these giant rats, not just them but their brethren infesting our universities and also their supporters the urban naxals
Plus the naxals areas need a big push on the path of development
You are right we need to use heavy firepower ,we should send in attack helicopters so that we can minimise our casualties and deal with them effectively
Truth is we need to show them no mercy and send a strong message
