47 confirmed dead, over 50 wounded as huge blast rocks Karachi
Karachi: At least forty-seven people have been killed and more than 50 injured as a loud explosion occurred here at the Nashtar Park area on Tuesday. Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao has confirmed the death toll. It was also learnt that the Chief of Tehreek-e-Awam-e-Ahle Sunnat, Hanif Billo has also died in the incident. The explosion went off at a place where a religious congregation with regard to Seerat-e-Nabi was being held. The congregation was organised by Jamat Ahl-e-Sunnat.
According to reports quoting eyewitnesses, the explosion went off exactly under the stage where the religious scholars of the said religious party were performing Magrib (Sunset) prayer.
Aid work at the blast site is going on and different ambulances are busy shifting the injureds and dead bodies to nearby hospitals.
Fleshes of human bodies were seen scattered at the explosion site, according to eyewitnesses adding that people around the stage have been worst hit of the explosion.
