“The power is rising…………..” Bang………"

The Voice was Fainted by an explosion, succeeded by another vigorous explosion. Earth trembled, Glasses shattered, Metal melted like an ice cube, concrete walls bent as is a potter shaping clay vessel. A shockwave passed through everyone’s feet to head. Fire broke out. Electricity went down. Fire illuminated the outside of building like sun. A ray of blue light covered the void between earth and sky as angels descending on earth. It was as if the war had broken out. Everyone ran for the shelter. Pereozchebko reported the collapse of reactor top. 500-ton safety cap was blown. While fire was also reported. Alexander Akimov the shift chief called the fire brigade. No one was in condition to accept the fact that reactor core had torn open to the atmosphere. It was believed that the water flow to the reactor was blocked by some closed valves. So, Akimov along with chief controller and Some other workers went for manually opening the valves. The got a lethal dose of radiation. Though they spent several hours turning the valves. The fire fighter suffered something that they never before. They were unaware of radiations and wore no safety gears. The hands with which they touched radioactive material suffered radioactive burning. Blood popped out of the pores of skin.

Before the blast:
A safety test was to be conducted on the morning of . This test was done to check weather in case of power failure, the plant’s still spinning turbines can produce enough power to keep the coolant pumps running during the brief gap before the emergency generators start working. This test was delayed as some other plant was shut down and Chernobyl was used to fulfill the city’s power need. Due to this situation test was conducted by night shift which weren’t even familiar to the procedure. The power level must be kept between 700 to 1000 MWt. By extracting control rods - which act as the brakes for nuclear reactor – power level was decreased to 720 MWt and kept on decreasing. The RBMK Reactors become highly unstable at low powers which was kept hidden eve from the Controls of power plants. The Reactor became poisoned. Later the power level suddenly decreased from 500 MWt to 30 MWt. Till 1:00 am power had risen to 200 MWt and was stabilized. Akimov suggested not to conduct test but was forced by deputy chief engineer to do it anyway. 1:23:40 mentioned by the pressing of AZ 5 Button which is used to shut down reactor at once. It inserts all the control rods in the core at once. The rods’ tip was made of Graphite which staff was unaware of. As the graphite tips entered the radioactive material the reaction spiked up and power level increased to 30,000 MWt which caused the explosion to happen and succeeded by a more severe explosion.
After the accident:
The Plant manager Viktor Burkhanov and Chief engineer Nikolai Fomin wasn’t even at the power plant during test. The actual severity of radiation wasn’t told to them by Anatoly Dyatlov the deputy chief engineer. In fact, deputy chief didn’t even bother to measure exact amount of radiation. The Dosimeter (Equipment used to measure radiations) having least count of 30 milli sieverts/hour was used to measure 300 sieverts/hour radiations. The officials shut down the other reactors. Fire brigade succeeded to extinguish the external fire while the core was still burning and would burn for several days. About 5,000 tons of Boron, Dolomite, Sand, Clay and Lead dropped over the core by using helicopters. The radioactive debris was to be removed from the roof of reactor. About 60 robots were used for this purpose but they collapsed due to high radiations. The robots did almost 10 % of the work while remaining 90 % was done by soldiers wearing heavy protective gears (called Bio-Robots). These soldiers could spend only about 40 to 90 seconds on roof top. About 5,000 soldiers were assigned to do it. Later a sarcophagus was built on the reactor in order to prevent more radiation to enter atmosphere. Which is replaced by another sarcophagus in 2016. The Cleaning is estimated to be completed at least till 2065.

Incompetency of USSR:
The officials of Russia weren’t intended to tell anyone about such horrible disaster. Even the evacuations of surrounding areas started after 36 hrs. Thousands of people breath in the radioactive air for more than a day. The people were told to return homes after about 3 days. Till now those 3 days never came to end and will never end in future. Sweden got the credit for pushing Soviet Union to admit that something had gone wrong. But still the govt reported the situation under control. For the first time Soviet Govt. spoke publicly about the accident on May 14.
As USSR couldn’t succeed in concealing this accident from outer world, the next thing they did was to stow away their inadequacy. The operators were held blameworthy of whole matter.

Effects:
Chernobyl nuclear disaster is the worst nuclear accident ever in the history. The radiations released were equal to 400 atomic bombs. Though the actual number of causalities is still unknown and under discussion. 4,000 to 200,000 deaths are estimated (Included the later deaths by cancer). Carig Mazin said “The best estimate will put the number somewhere in the many ten thousands” This disaster is also considered as the sole reason for collapse of USSR.
Forest fire:
On April 4, 2020 forest fire broke out in Chernobyl exclusion zone. The radiation level increased to 16 times than normal. More than 300 fire fighters worked to extinguish it. At last fire extinguished on 14 April after the rain. The fire reached about mile from away from the nuclear plant. It could prove another disaster but nature saved us .

This world is full of secrets. The govts. And other groups take the help of lies to cover their loopholes. The people who expose them are exposed to eternity. The problem is that if one hears enough lies, he no longer possesses ability to recognize the truth. A lot of these secrets are buried as the people holding them are silenced forever.

You're delusional, RBMK reactor cores don't explode.
I don't know very much about RBMK but the information I got says that the core was exploded.
It was believed till the accident that the RBMK reactors are design in such a way that core can't explode.
If You have some details that core didn't explode then plz guide me. you r most welcome.

In reality authorities moved out dozens thousands of locals in 3 days. Silence was only during the first day, while the authorities tried to sort out the situation. USSR made it much better and quicker then Japan with Fukusima. Dozens thousands of families were given free of charge houses or apartments during few months and around 15000 rubles (1 ruble = 1 dollar in 1986) of compensation. Everyone got 1 free trip to the sea hotel once a year and many-many other privileges, some of them still working.

Chernobyl | The Cost of Lies
“Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later that debt is paid.”

"To be a scientist is to be naive. We are so focused on our search for the truth we fail to consider how few actually want us to find it. But it is always there whether we see it or not, whether we choose to or not. The truth doesn't care about our needs or wants, it doesn't care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions. It will lie in wait for all time. And this, at last, is the gift of Chernobyl. Where I once would fear the cost of truth, now I only ask: What is the cost of lies?"
"Every generation must know its own suffering"

This is a fictional story, not a documental one.
