KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) Anti-Extremist Cell on Thursday arrested four members of the Tehreek-i-Taliban (Pakistan) and a target killer believed to be affiliated with a political party.

SSP Chaudhry Aslam said the men were arrested during separate raids in the Manghopir and Saeedabad areas.

Four men belonging to the Qari Shakeel group of TTP were arrested in the afternoon from Manghopir Road. Abdul Jabar aka Agha, Arif Nawaz, Raees Khan and Ismail confessed that they were involved in extortion, forceful collection of sacrificial hides, carrying out robberies and kidnappings for ransom in the city.

Police said the four men were providing “logistic support” to militants.

Aslam said that the arrested men were sending the money they collected to Qari Shakeel, who is based in Mohmand Agency.

Police recovered a 9mm pistol and four TTs along with ammunition from the men. Officials said the men were “extremely cunning” and more details would be released after further investigations.
