JCO commits suicide in Jammu, third Armyman to do so in a week

JAMMU: A Junior Commissioned Officer today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his barrack on the outskirts of the city, the third such incident involving Armymen in Jammu region in eight days.

Naib Subedar V S V Naidu committed suicide at a military station in Domana area, defence ministry spokesman Lt Col Biplab Nath said.

He said that the reason behind Naidu taking the extreme step is not known immediately. The JCO had rejoined duty recently after a three-month leave.

A court of inquiry has been ordered by the Army authorities in this regard, he said.

This is third suicide by army personnel in the region in the past eight days and all of the three had returned after availing long leave.

JCO Naib Subedar Ganga Ram of 49 Rashtriya Rifles committed suicide by shooting himself at an army barrack in Mendhar belt of Poonch district on March 19.

Sepoy Raghubir Singh, posted at the forward defence location at Jallas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, committed suicide while on duty on March 21.

Hi,
all millitaries should recruit civil psychiatrists instead of military shrinks as it is highly unlikely that an army officer will be able to speak his mind clearly in front of another especially if he is senior, so that is why such psychological disorders and issues are not addressed properly, and the way they are handled in Pakistan Army, don't ask:agree: the best thing they can do is freeze the promotion or either expel from army. I am not sure how things are like in Indian military but apparently seem bleak as well, would be nice if any Indian member could share his/her personal experience

India did adopt some kind of psychological program for its army in Occupied Kashmir after Indian army men have been committing suicide every now and then.

How much that project had helped thats another matter but its clear suicide among Indian armymen is still continued.

There is nothing called "occupied" in Indian territory, i'm not talking about other side.

Our's is much bigger army, diverse regions/climates, fighting foreign sponsored terrorism etc. are the reason of stress.

But the majority of solders who commits suicide is due to when they have not get leaves.

There is mobile phone angel too.

In old time soldiers used to write and receive lattes from families but now a days they all have mobile phone and regularly talk over phone with their families.

So, when u daily talks u don't have much to talk and the wife/mother tell u stuff like petty things "Aaj saas ne danta, aaj bahu ne ye kiya" type of crap this is burdening the solders.
