Baramulla: Amid growing pressure from New Delhi to stop trade across the Line of Control,
34 trading firms of the Pakistan side of Kashmir and 8 firms from this side were banned by the authorities for any trade across the LoC.
Official sources said that the Pakistan administered Kashmir sent a letter to officials of this side saying that there were some firms who were either unregistered or involved in illegal trading, for which they have been blacklisted. Responding to this letter, the Custodian of cross-LoC trade, D Sagar, issued a notice to all trading companies this side of Kashmir to not import or export anything to these blacklisted companies.
Officials also said that the Custodian had forwarded a list of 8 companies of this side that should not be entered into trade by any firm across the LoC.
The Custodian, who is also the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Uri, where the border trading post is located, confirmed to Kashmir Reader that he received a list of 34 companies from officials of the other side that were not to be traded with. He said that after that receiving this list he issued a notice to all traders this side to not trade with the blacklisted companies.
He also confirmed that he had already blocked trade with 8 firms on his side and had forwarded the names of the firms to officials on the Pakistan side.
On July 21, 66 kg of heroin was found in a truck coming from the Pakistan side at the Salamabad check post in Uri. LoC trade was stopped for two weeks after this incident.
