No idea, but its a good start in both cities where there are numerous complains on transportation.

what is the combined population of these two. As in India for example Delhi has a extensive "Delhi Metro" system still Delhi has 11,000 buses.

So how can these 300 can fulfill the requirements.

^^^ over populated to an extent but not overcrowded ....however noe delhi covers whole NCR ...

I'm really delighted at this news

Will only 300 new buses suffice the requirements in these two cities??????

Obviously not. The combined population of the two cities is around 3 million and including suburbs this becomes around 4.5 million.

Pakistan invests less than .5% on public transport compared to what it spends on private transport. Currently, only 10 seats vans serve the two cities.

I've used the Delhi Metro and Bus system, and it is pretty good.

I though you are a bit sensible among the members. now i have to think otherwise. The post clearly says 300 "new", which means there are already other buses travelling.

read my first post it says "New". My point was for asking about the total requirements and will it suffice by 300 new buses. And its conman sense that they have bus already running.

First of all average person living in Islamabad (residents only) owns his own Car and do not use transport system. Secondly there are large number of Yellow taxis that are fullfilling its demand in Islamabad. Third - It is not highly populated and the requirements are not that much. Four - These are 300 new buses and several other transportations are there.

We don't really need much buses in our Capital city it is already a developed city with the best infrastructure and transport system of Pakistan.

We only need these routes in highly populated Rawalpindi and glad to hear new buses being introducued there. I can remember we introduced new CNG Buses back in 2007 for both twin cities so definitely its not a first project of its kind and not to forget an average middle class person in Pakistan use Motorcycle for his daily needs and not use other ways of transports

Can you plz explain "our Capital city it is already a developed city"??

Can u plz explain the best infrastructure and transport system????

As per my info London has Metro train and still about 8000 buses.

So, in your opinion London is undeveloped???

A best infrastructure and transport system consist of Railways, Airport, Highways, Expressways for external travel.

And Metro Train, Buses and Cabs for internal traveling.

Not private vehicles cars and 2 wheelers.

you are right about London where transportation is heavily used by locals and foreigners. Probably millions of peoples use London underground per day and similar number of peoples use Buses all around London. But London is a highly populated having 6-8 times more population than Islamabad. You cannot compare Islamabad with other countries.

Islamabad is a unique city of its kind. Before 1960s nobody even knew about Islamabad it was a kind of a barren land (with lots of greenery) with no developments at all. Islamabad is more like a concept, a kind of a project which was started around 1960s unlike other cities.

If you look at statistics or read the history of Islamabad you will come to know about 30-40 years ago Islamabad's population was not even 100,000. The early residents of Islamabad were all rich peoples and diplomats who does not really use transportation. Even now the majority of Islamabad is very rich and they hardly use any transport to travel around the city. The requirements of this city are very unique. Only recently the sudden rise in population is resulting in buses in this city otherwise Yellow cabs were more than enough for the local peoples of Rawalpindi who wish to travel Islamabad and i have not seen any two wheelers in Islamabad

I know you are right in your analysis but you have to treat Islamabad as a unique case. We have large requirements of buses in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi and other over crowed cities but Islamabad is not like Lahore or Karachi. I have been to Islamabad many times i know its like another country in Pakistan.

Justin do u have the number of total buses in Islamabad??/

have u ever heard 1000 buses launching at the same time, its usually 200-300 buses at a particular point of time.

Here are the two news about delhi where 109 and a proposal of 40 buses every month

You can also note that there 5000 buses now when the requirement is for 11000 buses.

107 new buses to ferry Delhi- Hindustan Times

Corporate buses will hit roads in Oct - The Times of India

I live in Islamabad and I think 50 buses will be enough, cuz almost everyone here have there own transport, most of the travelers are students, but if you include Rawalpindi aswel then 300 is fine cuz there are 100s of private vans, buses, rakshaws (only in Rawalpindi) and taxis all over the twin cities.

And Delhi population is like over 15 million and Both Islamabad and Rawalpindi population is like 4.5 million, still less but will fulfill our requirements for sure
