5th September 1995 - Three U.S. Marines in Okinawa forcibly kidnapped and raped several sixth-grade Japanese girls. After this crime, 90,000 Japanese took to the streets and chanted anti-American slogans calling for the abolition of American capitulation in Japan. Which, of course, did not work.

Americans raping Japanese girls in Okinawa is a repeated incident over the years of occupation of Okinawa till this moment.

Moreover, the protests of Okinawan citizens never yielded and USA continues to occupying of Japanese lands.

It was only one girl, and the three servicemen were punished:

"Gill pleaded guilty to the rape, and the other two men pleaded guilty to conspiracy. The trial concluded in March 1996. Prosecutors had asked for the maximum sentences for the men, 10 years each. The judge sentenced Gill and Harp to seven years' imprisonment; Ledet received six and a half years. Their families also paid "reparation money" to the family of the victim, a common practice in Japan."
