3 Shia Muslims Killed in Southwest Pakistan

At least three Shia Muslims were killed and five others injured today when gunmen attacked a van on the outskirts of Quetta city in southwest Pakistan, three days after 29 members of the minority community were shot dead by militants in Balochistan province.

The van, going from Quetta to Bolan district, was stopped by the gunmen at Sibbi Road.

The gunmen ordered the passengers out of the vehicle and lined them up before firing indiscriminately, witnesses said.

The three persons who died were Shia Hazaras, they said. The five injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Initial reports had said there were two separate attacks by gunmen at Quetta and Mach.

Witnesses later clarified that only the van had been attacked on the outskirts of Quetta.

Security forces cordoned off the site of the attack and launched a search operation.

The Tahaffuz-e-Azadari Council, a leading Shia organisation, called for six days of mourning.

This was the second attack on Shias in Balochistan province since Tuesday, when 29 members of the community were killed in two attacks by militants.

In the first attack, militants ordered passengers out of a bus and gunned down 26 people in Mastung district.

Three more men were killed in the second attack on the outskirts of Quetta.

The banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi had claimed responsibility for the attack on the bus.

RIP to the innocent Shias.

What the hell is going on Massacres after Massacres and still culprits are walking freely to kill more :hitwall::hitwall:

And if a single get killed in India many get hysterical what a hippocrasy.

WTF is our government doing?

Once again, the government has failed, but Babar Awan keeps on denying this.

There should be some drastic operation in Balochistan to eradicate this mess. Army is already a bit stretched, so army along with FC operation might be good. This needs to be done ASAP.

Again? Ram Ram, RIP to the death and rot in hell to the cuprits

An article on BBC Urdu says that killing Shias is easier than killing mosquitoes in Pakistan, referring to Dengue fever mosquitoes.

Sectarian hate is high in every part of Pakistan, except Karachi.

The problem are those fatwa farosh mullahs, who declare 'everyone' kafir who does not agree with their ideology. They even give fatwas that kill one shia and get sawab of Hajj.

Molana Ishaq just got clearance certificate and got released few days back. Now LeJ is back in action.

R.I.P to the dead.

Lack of evidence and weak judiciary. Apart from Molana Ishaq, just hang top 10 mullas of every sect, there will be eternal peace.

Many shias are killed in karachi also.

You are right. But sectarian hate is much lower in Karachi as compared to other cities of Pakistan. In Karachi shia feel much liberty in performing moharram activities (the whole of 2 months and 8 days).

Though a little out of box but very effective way to deal with the murderers..

Man of violence – The Express Tribune

Man of violence

There can be no doubt, judging by his record, that Malik Ishaq, leader of the banned extremist organisation — the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi — is a man of violence. Released in July this year, he had spent 14 years in jail for his alleged involvement in some 44 cases of terrorist violence which caused around 70 deaths. He has been acquitted in 34 of these cases. But Ishaq is clearly not a reformed soul. His recent diatribe against Shias in Rahimyar Khan has led to him being placed under house arrest by the Punjab government for 10 days. He had also recently been involved in a sectarian clash in Muzaffargarh, which led to several more deaths.

We have before us, then, a dangerous man; it is widely believed that he has played an important role in numerous attacks, including the March 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team and other high-profile cases, even though the courts failed to convict him. He was eventually released after being acquitted in many of the cases and getting bail in the rest, but for that perhaps the police or the judicial system must shoulder some of the responsibility. The question to be asked now is what he has been doing free for over two months and why does his outfit, despite being banned for a period approaching a decade, seems to be able to operate and stage attacks with impunity, as was shown most recently in the attack on Shias at Mastung.

It does not seem that keeping him under house arrest for a temporary period will serve any purpose. Ishaq may, after this brief period, become free to do what he wishes. The problem lies in the police’s inability to prove the charges against him — a factor that has again and again resulted in killers and terrorists walking free — and also in the degree of commitment of the Punjab government in cracking down against the extremists. Another issue also is that the courts often do not convict those against whom sufficient evidence may have been presented, because in many instances, the judges fear for their lives in case they gave a guilty verdict. However, it all boils down to the state’s willingness to go after those who are involved in acts of terrorism. Unless it does that unequivocally, the monster of sectarianism will only grow stronger.
