Members of Bangladesh Navy have arrested 23 Indian fishermen and seized two trawlers for fishing illegally inside Bangladeshi maritime boundary in Bagerhat.
A team of navy spotted the fishing boats -- Swarna Dweep and Amrichha -- in Bangladesh bordering area in the Bay of Bengal yesterday evening and arrested the 23 Indian fishermen, said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station.
The navy team also seized the two fishing trawlers, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting the OC.
SM Bhuiyan, an official of Bangladesh Navy, filed a case against the arrestees with the local police station today, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting the OC.
All of the arrestees hailed from South 24 Parganas and Bijoy Nagar in India's West Bengal state. They were handed over to Mongla police around 4:00pm today, said OC Iqbal
