Two Russian employees of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at Ishwardi upazila in Pabna died early Saturday.

The deceased are Schukin Pavel,48, mechanical engineer of sub-contractor company Trest Rossem, and Tolmasoff Vassiliev, 59, installer of another company SMU-1.

Both of them were residents of Green City Project, housing project for the Russian officials of the power plant

Police said Pavel fell sick around 3 am and was brought to Ishwardi upazila health Complex where a doctor announced him dead.

“We suspect he died from excessive alcohol intake,” said Asaduzzaman Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi police station.

Meanwhile, Tolmasoff collapsed at 2 am while getting down from the stairs on the 14th floor of the building and died on the spot, said a doctor of the employer company.

OC Asaduzzaman said both the bodies will be sent to Russia through the embassy after autopsy.

পাবনার রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রে কর্মরত আরও এক রাশিয়ান নাগরিক মারা গেছেন। রবিবার (৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি) দুপুরে তার মরদেহ পাওয়া যায়। এ নিয়ে গত আট দিনে রূপপুরে পাঁচ রুশ নাগরিকের মৃত্যু হলো।

রবিবার মারা যাওয়া মৃত রুশ নাগরিকের নাম ভোরোটনিকভ আলেকজান্দ্রা (৫৫)। পুলিশ জানায়, রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র প্রকল্পের ‘‘নিকিম’’ নামের একটি প্রতিষ্ঠানে কাজ করতেন তিনি। থাকতেন রূপপুরে বিদেশিদের জন্য নির্মিত সাহাপুরের নতুনহাট গ্রিনসিটি আবাসিক প্রকল্পের একটি ফ্ল্যাটে।

এক প্রতিবেদনে এ কথা জানায় বেসরকারি টেলিভিশন চ্যানেল এনটিভির অনলাইন সংস্করণ।

রবিবার দুপুরের দিকে ওই ফ্ল্যাটে তাকে অচেতন অবস্থায় পড়ে থাকতে দেখেন এক সহকর্মী। পরে গ্রিনসিটি ও রূপপুর প্রকল্পসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তাদের খবর দেওয়া হয়। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ গিয়ে মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য পাবনা জেনারেল হাসপাতাল মর্গে পাঠায়।

এ বিষয়ে গ্রিনসিটি প্রকল্পের কেউ কোনো কথা বলতে রাজি হননি।

ঈশ্বরদী থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) মো. আসাদুজ্জামান বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে গণমাধ্যমকে বলেন, ভোরোটনিকভ আলেকজান্দ্রার মরদেহ ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য পাবনা জেনারেল হাসপাতাল মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে।

এর আগে গত শুক্রবার রাতে রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের ট্রেস্ট রোসেম নামে রুশ সাব-ঠিকাদারি প্রতিষ্ঠানের মেকানিক্যাল ইঞ্জিনিয়ার রুশ নাগরিক চুকিন পাভেল (৪৮) অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েন। পরে দ্রুত তাঁকে গ্রিনসিটি আবাসিক থেকে ঈশ্বরদী উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে নিলে চিকিৎসক মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। একই দিন দিবাগত রাত ২টার দিকে তলমাসেফ ভাইয়াসেলভের (৫৯) নামে আরেক রুশ নাগরিকের মৃত্যু হয়। তিনি ১২ নম্বর আবাসিক ভবনের ১৩তলার ১৩১ নম্বর ফ্ল্যাটে থাকতেন। রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র প্রকল্পের এসএমইউ-১ নামে আরেকটি সাব-ঠিকাদারি প্রতিষ্ঠানের ইনস্টলার হিসেবে কাজ করতেন।

তিনি মদ্যপ অবস্থায় হাঁটার সময় হঠাৎ ১৪তলার সিঁড়ি থেকে পড়ে অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়েন। পরে কোম্পানির নিজস্ব ডাক্তার তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন। তার আগে গত ২ ফেব্রুয়ারি শাকিরভ আলেক্সেইয়ের ঘুমের মধ্যে এবং ২৮ জানুয়ারি ঈশ্বরদী উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় মৃত্যু হয় বারচেনকো আলেক্সেইয়ের। তারা দুজনই এই প্রকল্পের কর্মী ছিলেন।

এ বিষয়ে রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্রের প্রকল্প পরিচালক শৌকত আকবর এবং সাইট ইনচার্জ রুহুল কুদ্দুসকেফোন করা হলে তারা সাড়া দেননি।

Alcoholism is a problem in Russia itself. The combination of lack of any Russian cultural activity is also a cause.

Very sad.

BAC testing (Blood alcohol content percentage) is a common test done during autopsy.

The govt. should have a dialog with the contractor about reducing Russians' boredom in a foreign country, trips to Russia could be arranged more frequently, or to (ahem) comfort venues in Dhaka.

Drinking local desi daru from methylated spirits is usually a group activity and is the cause of alcohol poisoning. Tons of people in India die from this every year.

Govt. needs to pay attention to the problem.
