1st container ship from Kolkata arrives at Pangaon

A container ship "Sonar Tori Nou Kallyan" from Kolkata port arrived on Friday at the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal in Keraniganj.

"Container services have been formally introduced between Bangladesh and India through arrival of the container ship Sonar Tori Nou Kallyan at the Pangaon terminal," Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan told a function at the Pangaon terminal, an official release said. – source BSS

Typical. Indians not spending one paisa on this effort (ships are all Bangladeshi), yet demanding transit for free.

This 'Nou Kollan' class is one of two vessels built last year at KSY.

You Bangladeshi have a habit complaining just for the sake of it. @Nilgiri , what have you done to this guy, he seems to have lost the plot.

Pangaon Port is being used only on an interim basis, till the Ashuganj ICP and the associated infrastructure becomes operational. These projects are being undertaken under the 2 Billion dollar Indian line of credit given to Bangladesh. Apart from that India also gives Bangladesh an annual sum of 100 Million BDT for maintenance of these waterways and provides assistance for dredging if and when Bangladesh requests for it.

As for ship being Bangladeshi, it probably is. According to the Indian high commissioner 99% of the cargo is being shipped using Bangladeshi vessels. Bangladesh has many small shipyards which makes these kind of small ships, which can be used for inland and coastal transportation. They provide their services at a cost to the Indian companies. Its a win win for the shipyards and ship owners and am sure they welcome this development, I don't know why you are having a cry about it.

Who's complaining? :-)

Once we flood the NorthEast market with our lower cost, better quality goods, they will hardly buy goods shipped all the way from the Western Indian states, especially appliances.

We are hardly charging enough for transit and everyone in Bangladesh knows it, yet we area tolerant lot and are keeping mum for the sake of better relations.

It's like giving away ganja cookies for free before they get a taste, then they'll buy at whatever cost.....

Your industrialists should not be given a free run for the money that's all. It's a favor we are extending - which can change automatically once the govt changes.

Transit is a two-way street. But in this case it favors mainly Bangladesh exports, not Indian transit.

And you forget that the Chinese also have a say so in how much transit is given to Arunachal area and how developed the Chinese want it to be.

this is more of a barge than a ship..........

A more elaborate story on the transit framework

Are you kidding? BD ships is actually better for Bangladesh. Use of Indian ships would imply an indian company made money on this shipping.

Anyway transit is not free. It is low and certainly the indian business lobby would be grateful but it's not free. IMO a low fee is a good strategy to encourage setting up transit routes the fee can later be increased if business volumes rise. A high fee would simply deter shippers and nobody would win.

Good for everyone. I would prefer buying Made in BD over Made in China, all else being equal.

No idea what you mean. Transit is passage of goods through another country [in this case BD]. How would transit of Indian goods involve export of BD goods? [that's a different transaction]

And you forget that the Chinese also have a say so in how much transit is given to Arunachal area and how developed the Chinese want it to be.

Seriously?

A case of verbal diarrhea IMO

I blitzkrieged his fragile psyche pretty bad it seems. Guess it happened from posting pictures of Indian industry and contrasting it with the very threads started in this subforum about BD plans for such from years back (and reality check of what actually transpired). He hates seeing what happens in India (without much fanfare) and what never happens in BD no matter how much fanfare.

Before he was crying BD must do something so that its "goods" can be sold to N.E (or as he called it in his butthurt North-West) India....and now he is saying it will be inevitable "flooding" of such.

Also has called Pakistani's like @LA se Karachi as "Sanghi/false flagger" because they said BD is no longer a concern or even an interest of Pakistan.

The guy has become unhinged, lets leave it at that. :P
