Pakistan condemns terrorism wherever it occurs: PM
KARACHI, May 7 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Friday that Pakistan condemned terrorism whether it occurs in USA, India, Pakistan or any other country. The entire nation is against terrorism and 170 million people of Pakistan condemn terrorism and they are united against extremism and terrorism, he said while replying to a question on the involvement of Pakistan origin American Faisal Shahzad, at the Brands of the Year award ceremony.
He said that the Interior Ministry will respond to media after the completion of inquiry against Faisal Shahzad.
To a question about energy shortage, the PM said that India was facing a shortage of 50,000 megawatts, while other neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal were also facing a shortage.
He pointed out that energy conservation drive has saved 1000 MW in just ten days. The production of 1000 MW of electricity would have been possible at a cost of $ 1.5 billion and that too in next four years, he noted.
Gilani said the government would resolve this problem with the help of long, medium and short term plans.
He said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was an internationally acclaimed leader and her death was a loss not only to Pakistan but also to the international community.
He made it clear that one should not make a mistake that her blood will go waste and vowed that her assassins would be brought to justice.
Regarding energy crisis, he said that agreements have been signed with Iran for the purchase of electricity and gas, but these projects would take three to four years.
Responding to a question about local bodies elections in Sindh, he said that it was a provincial matter and coalition partners must take their own decision in this regard. The Federation will not interfere in provincial matters.
The Prime Minister said that the government would not take dictation on economic matters. The prices of petroleum products have been increased due to rise in international prices, he added.
To another question, he said that the trust deficit between Pakistan and United States has been removed as the USA had realised the sacrifices of Pakistan in the war against terrorism.
He said 342 MNAs and 100 Senators voted for 18th Amendment which has restored the 1973 Constitution to its original form and none voted against it. This is peoples victory, he observed.
Gilani said that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed in Bhutan that wars were not the solution to problems and therefore agreed to begin negotiations on all issues. The India Prime Minister himself wanted to start dialogue with Pakistan, he added.
We will hold talks with India on all issues including Kashmir, Siachin, Sir Creek and water on equal terms, he opined.
To a question, he said that Pakistans nuclear programme was in safe hands. This has been recognised by the international community including US President Barrack Obama, he added.
