ISLAMABAD – The Senate was informed on Wednesday that energy projects with a total capacity of 17,045 megawatts will be taken up under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This was stated by the Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal while responding to a question during Questions Hour in the Upper House.

He said that projects with a capacity of 1,110 megawatts based on research and scientific analysis are on the advanced staged.

The minister said that Chinese experts are undertaking studies to fund hydel projects on River Indus like Diamer-Bhasha, Bunji, and other projects. He said that in principal China has agreed to fund hydel projects on River Indus.

To a question, Ahsan Iqbal said that a project with a capacity of 300 megawatts has been approved in Gwadar and work on this will be started as soon as Balochistan Government provides land for this purpose.

Minister for Energy Awais Khan Leghari dispelled the impression that China is tilting towards India regarding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Giving Ministerial response to a matter of public importance, he said that CPEC is a part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and a bilateral project between Pakistan and China and no third country can be made part of it.

I think If Pakistan can figure

a) Upgrading the lines
b) Keep it underground
c) Better Electricity equipment etc
d) Reduction in electricity theft

Then we are going to see tremendous potential

so far they have figure it out for Islamabad only

How many projects are now operational?

any list?

and how many to be added this year?

Pakistan needs to work heavily on Solar, wind mill, big dams & Nuclear plant power projects. Coals & pollution producing plants should not be invested on at all.

And nuclear plants are producing pollution which will talk to us in case of earthquake, and / or when it's time come to pull out combustible and when time come to dismantle the plant because its lifespan is or will be over... and that's cost too much...

It's better to try to go to solar farm, dams, and sea based plants... but sure we need also to work to use energy efficient devices, machinery, improving electricity network in all Pakistan...

Nuclear plants produce 0% Negative pollution
Quite a clean Technology i.e no smog is produced or no emissions to harm Ozone Layer
You will not get Cough related illness or any lung related illness

Now as for the Nuclear fuel aspect , that water (radio active) normally becomes harmless in 50-60 years so it is kept in safe areas for proper decomissioning at least that is the general principle behind Nuclear plants.

Obviously for doing something like Electrical Wires underground ,
Some Engineering Effort is needed and Professionalism , and certainly the Organizaions like WAPDA need to really be enhanced to be able to modernize the wire infrastructure

You can't do Ground wiring unless you have blueprints of all streets / neighbourhoos where the wires run from so in case you need to make repairs you can dig up the wire

But in general wiring undeground rarely needs fixing up
