The 1950s in Pakistan can be best described as a soul-searching mission for the country. The politicians, intellectuals, artists and society, in general, were in their infancy and trying to build a nation from scratch with very little on hand. With a very vague idea as to what they hoped to achieve.
Here’s a look the decade that was marked with inexperience, fraught with confusion and at times despair, but equally boundless in hope and aspiration to see this country prosper.
1. Peshawar University comes into being May 18, 1950
2. The First Commander in Chief of Pakistan, 1950 – General Ayub Khan (dressed in white)

3. 1951 – The University of Karachi opened

4. PM Liaquat Khan Assassinated October 16, 1951 – Rawalpindi
5. October 17, 1951 – New Prime Minister Khawaja Nazimuddin
6. 1953 Muhammad Ali Bogra was sworn in as Prime Minister – Discussing Kashmir a critical issue with Nehru
7. August 7, 1954 – Government approves Anthem written by Hafeez Jalandhari
8. 1954 Pakistan Cricket – They won their first maiden test vs. England, at the Kennington Oval August 12-17
