Hi folks

In central europe plate armor reached it peak in design at the end of the 15th century, with the most astonishing plate armor made between 1450 and 1495...just befor the guns completely changed the battlefield.

I am just wondering how knights in full plate armor between 1450 and 1500 would have stand against fighters of the same time around the world if you phase out guns?

Some facts about full plate armor ..
Typical a full armor weight between 25-30kg was perfectly spread over the body and did not hinder the people wearing it... other than many belive guys in full armor can jump, run, roll, climb ladders, climb horses or even walls.
High quality milanese or gothic armor from north italy or south germany was 1-2mm thick and heat treated and of high steel quality... latest test have shown that breast plates were immune to 130 - 150pound long bow arrows shoot from point blank range...they could not even dent the breast plate... even crossbow bolts had difficulty to pierce such armor.
Because pierceing the armor was for human powered weapons nearly impossible, knigths used warhammer, battle axe, mace, morning star to ko the other knight inside the armor with brute force... if fancing with sword they normaly did half swording holding the sword with one hand at the grip and with on hand at the balde... this way the knight had more controll over the blade and tryed to pierce the weak joints of the plate armor only covered with padding or chain mail. Main goal was to throw the enemy knight to the ground get over him and kill him with a sharp pointing stabbing weapeon like a dagger by stabbing into the eye slits or into the plate joints..
The main different between milanese and gothic armor of the same time was in the detail.. milanese breast plate were made of two pices with smooth surfaces and asymetrical armor protection... the shild arm (which did not carry any shild with full plate armor) was more armored and covered by larger plates as the sword arm... the milanese armor was slightly more mobile than gothic armor in trade for slightly weaker armor.
Typical for gothic armor were the folds in the armor plates which strenghten the plates a lot and also typical was the helmet of gothic armor called the Schaller (sallet) with a long back offering excellent protection for the neck... because of it fixed mounted lower front the Schaller offered excellent protection for the throat.
