Chairman PTI, Imran Khan, has expressed shock and dismay over the plight of almost 15,000 Pakistanis stranded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for three months. He said it had come to light that every ten days or so one of these poor detainees' dies in the Saudi jail. The government of Pakistan, unlike the Indian and Bangladeshi governments who got their detainees released, has shamefully chosen to totally ignore the plight of these poor Pakistanis.
Khan condemned this inhuman approach of the Pakistan government and its consular and diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia. He said it is the duty of the state to look after its citizens abroad and especially if they are in any kind of trouble, it is the job of the Pakistani Missions to provide them all legal and humanitarian assistance.
The Chairman PTI said he found it appalling that the government of Pakistan and Pakistan's human rights organisations are completely unmoved by the plight of these poor Pakistanis locked up in jail in Jeddah without any money and where they are being provided no legal or family access which is their basic human rights.
Khan stated categorically that if the Pakistan government and its diplomats in Saudi Arabia did not move to resolve the plight of these imprisoned Pakistanis in Jeddah within this week, PTI will be compelled to file a human rights petition in the Supreme Court.
