129-Year-Old British Tunnel Restored in Ayubia National Park

According to the vision of clean and green Pakistan, the Ministry of Climate Change restored a 129-year-old British Tunnel named ‘Motto Tunnel’ in Ayubia National Park. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam unveiled the restored tunnel in a reopening ceremony last week.



Motto Tunnel was built by the British back in 1891, it is 12 kilometers long and stretches from Ghora Dhaka (presently Ayubia) to Khaira Gali.
Over the last few years the tunnel was used for waste disposal and was buried in garbage, Ministry of Climate Change in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife excavated the garbage and restored the tunnel for the use of the public. It has opened to the public after 20 years.

Aslam added,

Besides, reopening and renovation of the different segments of the tunnel, the tunnel site has also been provided with various facilities for tourists including a paved track to the tunnel, information center, guiding facilities, sitting and resting areas, and coffee shop.

Aslam said that the natural track of 4 kilometers has been extended by a further 12 kilometers due to the tunnel. He added that the Motto Tunnel will prove to be a model for eco-tourism in Ayubia National Park.

Ministry of Climate Change? Seems to me they should be focused on other stuff. Surely this is more relevant to tourism? Also i don't see any public bins, but there are benches nearby. I hope they've put a bin around somewhere for people to throw their rubbish.

who cleans rubbish dumped by fly-tippers in UK? is it environment department of the local council? in Pakistan the equivalent of local council is /was union council run by local criminals who will charge people to dump their rubbish. also if government would give them grants for local projects, the mofos take the money and run off to UK, US etc. pleading persecution

Honestly i've no idea if anyone does that in Pakistan. I wasn't expecting the Ministry of climate change to be picking up rubbish, but i made the assumption that they fitted the benches as part of the restoration. In my opinion, if you make public seating anywhere, you ought to put a bin nearby. For all i know though - those benches could have been there from ages ago.
