What's new

12 Strong (2018)

It seems U.S.'s only purpose of staying in Afghanistan is to make movies. First there was Rambo III, then Sand Serpents and other. If they only focus on work, they would have better results. It's non-serious attitude as well.

Furthermore, it's never seen before that you make a movie on on going war on another soil.

.
Well if they can't win against Taliban on ground that does not mean they can't win in a Hollywood movie and fulfil their dreams
This movie depicts events of the opening phase of war in Afghanistan, and it is close to accurate in portrayal of events of the time (first two months). It has nothing to do with current situation in Afghanistan.

The original Taliban and Al-Qaeda Network are finished. However, entire society is a mess and lost cause. Repeatedly combing it yield no long-term benefits and new form of insurgencies continue to surface from time-to-time.

US is unlikely to score a political victory in Afghanistan; no country will. Best course of action is to fence Durand Line and send Afghan refugees back.

Hollywood is good at making a mountain out of mole hill.
Many Pakistanis will pay good money to watch this heap of lies but will criticize any movie made on true stories of own army. Mental slavery at it's best.
Almost all Pakistan army movies simply disappear because the "Democracy " brigade feels threatened .
Google following:

1. Operational Detachment Alpha 594
2. Operational Detachment Alpha 595

12 Strong is a portrayal of the aforementioned groups during the opening phase of War in Afghanistan, and close to accurate. This move is a must watch actually.

I recall some of those events.

Very true.

This is the real eye-opener that people continue to miss. That refusal was deliberate.

After this deliberation how exactly can you tell sir that the movie is based on real events and not vise versa?

The original Taliban militia had substantial conventional military muscle and was in control of 95% territory in Afghanistan prior to war with the US.

Watch this video to get an idea:

[8:55 and on-wards]

US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 and toppled Taliban-led regime in a span of 2 months, killing thousands of Taliban and Al-Qaeda Network combatants in the process. Thousands more were taken as captives but slaughtered in air-tight containers and/or in prisons separately. During this phase of war, US dispatched squads of Army Rangers to Afghanistan (notably Operational Detachments Alpha 594 and Alpha 595) to mobilize Northern Alliance and use it to consolidate gains on the ground.

Opening salvo (2001):

Survivors of Taliban-led regime and Al-Qaeda Network sought refuge in the caves of Tora Bora in 2002 but were routed from this region in a span of 3 weeks (i.e. Operation Anaconda). Conversely, US established a new government in Afghanistan in the same year to manage its affairs.

Unfortunately, Bush administration [allowed] some militants to slip into Pakistan from Tora Bora, ignoring request of an American commander to commit 700 Army Rangers to war-effort in Tora Bora and eliminate all militants. Equally shocking was the revelation that Osama Bin Laden was among the militants who slipped into Pakistan. This development frustrated many observers and offended then COAS Pervez Musharraf but what could anybody do?

Osama and his companions were nabbed and/or assassinated in Pakistan over the course of years (2003 - 2011).

I saw the film yesterday. It was a solid movie. I'd rate it a 7/10.

Here are some of the Special Forces teams inserted into Afghanistan in Oct. 2001:

Does it matter? I mean killing the expendables and showing as an heroic act while letting the actual targets go.

Anyways good movie for certain people's consumption.

But the movie will make a lot of incriminating references and accusation on Pakistan blaming it for everything that has gone wrong in the Universe.
I wonder why they let him go(?)

Movies have a propaganda value to them and Hollywood is good at this.
