for last one month I have been drinking coffee instead of tea(always hated coffee)... and strangely I don't hate it anymore....

Fellow coffee lover

90%+ of South Indians prefer Coffee (laced with chicory and brewed very strongly) to Tea, its in our genetics I think :D

I believe the first coffee in the subcontinent arrived in the South Indian coastline from trade with Arabia and African horn...not too long after its qualities were chanced upon by those Ethiopian shepherds investigating why their flocks were acting so jittery and hyper :P

The coffee growing families of Mysore area are some of the richest heritage farmers in the whole area I believe (their weddings are certainly quite lavish having been to one of them few years back)....because there are not many suitable places for growing it outside of southern Deccan in India...hence its somewhat the monopoly for them.

Tea is much more recent introduction to mainstream South Asia (excluding the possible pockets of the North East where it has apparently been around for a much longer time) but it could be grown in much larger amounts given there are many steep foothills and such all around the region.
