KARACHI: Senior Sindh Education and Literacy Minister Pir Mazharul Haq claimed on Saturday 10 percent increase in female literacy rate, while only four percent growth in overall literacy ratio in the province during Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government since 2008.

Talking to the media on his return from Islamabad where he attended the inaugural ceremony of ‘Waseela-e-Taaleem’ programme the other day, he said the increase in literacy rate, especially of females, was the result of PPP government’s measures.

Haq said Sindh government was paying annual stipend of Rs 2500 o the girls students, while in some far flung and backward Talukas the amount was Rs 3500/-to encourage the girls seeking education from class VI to X.

“Now the government is going to launch a programme under which Rs 1000/-would be paid as annual stipend to the girls studying from primary class I to V,” he told. The minister said enrolling three million students under Waseela-e-Taaleem programme would leave great impact on literacy. Haq said Sindh Teachers’ Development Authority, Community Colleges and Campuses of Universities in different areas of Sindh would provide high quality education.

Because of political problems.Large number of people have been displaced by millitancy in tribal areas and by floods in sindh and balochistan.Plus there is distrust as some communities think that the census process might not be transparent.
